There are two types of fans in the world of Heartland: one being those who read and check out every word, clue and hint that is written in here and when they get to a photo or a video they check it out and then keep on reading the post.
Then there are those who skip the reading and zip down to take in the photos and videos right away before checking out the rest of the post - especially on a day like today, where I've included a 45-second preview showing footage from "Finding Freedom," the Heartland Season 5 Premiere, written by Heather Conkie and directed by Dean Bennett!

When you watch the preview and you see Amy and Ty in Ty's loft when the roof starts leaking, that was what the hint contained in the Tweet was about!

A New Block Starts Filming...
As most of you are aware, production has passed the midway point of filming, and today Gemini nominated director Dean Bennett takes the reins as he starts the 15-day process of guiding the cast and crew through episodes 511 and 512. Dean has directed more episodes of Heartland now than some series have episodes (!) The guy must be good. (Trust me - he is!)
Our Jack is Getting an Award (Yay!)...
And congratulations to Shaun Johnston - everyone's favourite patriarch on Heartland - who was announced as this year's recipient of the David Billington Award, an honour bestowed upon someone who has spent their career in the Alberta Film and Television Industry, contributing both on and off the screen. Shaun, whose charity work nicely stacks up with his on screen and on stage accomplishments, is certainly worthy of having his name put alongside past winners. Shaun will be honoured at a luncheon in November in Calgary. Way to go, Shaun!
The World of Heartland...
Last week I informed you about new countries Heartland was playing in (Turkey, Japan, etc.), and I have some more, hot off the wire!
An update to Heartland in Japan, NHK is playing Season 2 of Heartland on the Green Channel. The Season Premiere aired Saturday 30th May and the season is scheduled to end on Monday 26th September, 2011at 23.00pm. There are encore broadcasts on Thursdays at midnight, Saturdays at 2:00am and Sundays at 5:30pm. Any Japanese fans here? Say hello in the comments!
Other countries that have recently picked up Heartland and either are or are about to broadcast it are GEMTV in Iran, MY TV AFRICA in Nigeria, ZBC in Zimbabwe, NBC in Namibia, Dori Media in Israel and of course SABC in South Africa. Likewise, if you are in one of those countries, give everyone a shout-out below!
And on the international DVD front, in Australia, ABC has released the Season 3 Part 1 DVD Box Set on 7th July, 2011. They will be releasing the Season 3 Part 2 DVD Box Set on November 3, 2011.

Wow! I am loving what I am seeing so far of Season 5! I have been a Heartland fan ever since I was 13 when I got some of the books for my birthday. Now I am 22. I love, love, love the series and I love the changes that have been made to it throughout the seasons. It took me a while to accept the show because it is very different for the books and I have to say I did stop watching a little after season 2 and then got caught up online and realized I had missed a lot of great stuff! Now I am an even bigger fan of the show and have bought all the dvds. Last year I even met and got a picture taken with Amber Marshall at the Royal Winter Fair. One quick question, what happened to Ashley's horse Appalo? Is he still at Heartland? Or did Ashley supposedly sell him? Much as I like Heartland I was amazed at the o'h so dumb program this evening that allowed Amy to get shot. For what possible reason could the writers have for that to happen. They had all the men under control with guns so how could a young girl possibly be a threat. Once she reached the group she also would have been under their control. They must be desperate for a story line to resort to such a ridiculous scene.
Amy should have had enough brains to use her freedom to get help from law enforcement and do some good. Having been rescued from one outlaw holding a gun on her should have been enough to kee her thinking straight. Also, all the little petty love break ups and misunderstandings are getting a bit old.

@Mira: I think we'll still have to wait a looong time till Heartland will air in German free-tv. They showed it on, I think, rtl passion but I've never seen any hint that it will air in free-tv.
I personally prefer watching them in English as I don't like the German voices. They just don't sound perfect for the characters and the jokes and play on words are always better in English!

We are very glad that you enjoy Heartland. We are actually still airing episodes from season 1, but the season 2 episodes will begin on September 18.
In the US Heartland is syndicated as an “off network” show, meaning that the shows are not carried on the CBS network. We at CBS 5 purchase the shows from a company that has contracted with the show producer to distribute them to individual stations in the US. The US distributer currently only has the rights to seasons 1 & 2, but the show has been very successful here and they expect to acquire the rights to seasons 3, 4, and 5. I’ve told them that we would air those seasons if they become available. While the distribution pattern could change it appears that the plan now is to air the show in the US as it aired in Canada, one season per year, so we are beginning season 2 this fall, and season 5 would begin three years from now.

Here in Brazil, however, things aren't so wonderful... "Boomerang" was broadcasting Heartland on the past two years. The Season 3 ended in March of this year, followed by reprises and more reprises. "Ok", I thought, "someday they will broadcast new episodes." But, suddenly, there are no more Heartland on the Boomerang's programation, or anywhere else here in Brazil. I know I have to try to contact them, but, trust me, this is impossible! So you're my hope, BW, to answer these questions: "Will Boomerang continue to broadcast Heartand? Will we, the brazilians, watch Season 4 (and maybe Season 5) in portuguese someday?"

I purchased the season 3 DVD set and found, like some others at this site, that the bonus material seemed defective - interviews abruptly over, very little on main actors like Graham and Michelle. Did you ever find out BW what the bonus material was supposed to be like; if this was a defect, or unfortunately how it was done? Please post here or let me know by e-mail.

Sharon4sters, why would you think that the singing in the trailer is Ty? I guess it could be, but we've only heard him sing once in all the seasons that it's been on the air. The only time he sang was when he and Jack were on their way back home from him buying that motorcycle.
