UPDATE: I figured rather than write a new post with the same subject matter, I'd just update this one, so check below for a recap of last friday's challenge!
Hi everyone! Since today is that last day of work and/or school before the holidays for many of you, I thought I'd help you pass the long, boring afternoons with this little diversion... Click through to the blog post for the puzzle, and a chance to win something!
1) Here it is: By clicking on this link you can download a special Heartland "word search" puzzle (right-click and "save as" to download the PDF). Then you can print it. Hidden in the puzzle are 85 words, the clues to which are listed in the document. Please note that to make things a little easier I have put the number of letters needed to answer each clue after the clue in parentheses. Because I'm nice that way.
2) Now - once you have crossed out all the words there will be 42 unused letters, which spell out a little factoid that no one knows about Heartland! If you write the letters down in order - starting at the upper left and going through each row from left to right until you finish at the bottom right - you will easily decode it.
3) Then, whoever first successfully finishes the puzzle and posts the hidden message in the comments below will be both the first person to share this little gem of information about the show with the world, and will receive a Season 4 poster, autographed by Amber Marshall!
Note - you have to get all 42 unused letters in their correct order, spelling the exact message. I know to the minute when each blog comment comes in (regardless of when they show up here on the blog), so the first correct commenter wins!
The puzzle is a bit tricky, so be careful. And good luck!

UPDATE:
Well, if there's one thing that I'm consistently guilty of, it's underestimating you Heartland fans. I keep trying to come up with challenging challenges for you, and you keep knocking them out of the park. Then I raise the bar and make the next thing more challenging, and you STILL mop the floor with it. This has happened several times now, with me escalating and you all being brilliant, so a warning to you: sometime during the second half of season 4, the gloves are off. I'm going to come up with something IMPOSSIBLE. So there!
Anyhow, I thought the Word Search Puzzle would keep most of you busy for several hours at the very least, if not a day or two. How wrong I was. Many of you cracked it within 90 minutes - with the winner being Heartland Fan twhrider who nailed it in just over an hour.
The secret message was, as you now know: "Watch for Season Five of Heartland on CBC this Fall" (and of course, by "this fall" I mean next fall - late September or early October 2011.) As the photo above suggests, consider it a little early Christmas present!
So congrats, twhrider! Thanks for being our newest Official Heartland Fan Correspondent and issuing this press release on behalf of the show! We'll have a little something in the mail for you shortly!

I just wanted to comment on the December competition...when I saw that there's going to be one, I almost jumped for joy!! But then, later, when I started to fill in the form, I found out that it's only available in Canada...waaaa! I understand that it is a Canadian film, but couldn't the competition be open to all countries, as there are loads of fans all around the world :)

The reason for this is that different countries have different rules about contesting, so what might be legal in Canada may be totally illegal somewhere else (or the reverse). This is why Canadians can't enter online contests in the USA or UK or Australia (or anywhere else, for that matter.) As a TV show, Heartland isn't unique in this at all. HOWEVER... I do run little giveaways on Facebook and Twitter that are international, and I do try to look after the international fans as much as possible! ]

As for the Word Search, well, I'm much too busy to do one right now! But... I have printed it off and I plan on taking it away with me. So when on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day I am at a loss of things to do, I have a lovely HL Related Puzzle to do! I am looking forward to it :)
Btw, I have scanned the clues and I think they were much too easy. I don't think any of them required any thinking at all! Just saying ;)
