So, right off the top now, here's an easy question for Heartland fans to answer - what are we waiting only 38 more sleeps and 5 Thursdays for? Why, the Heartland Season 4 Premiere, of course! Click through to the blog post for some updates from on set, and the answers to some of your questions!
So, regarding waiting only 5 more Thursdays... I know that "only" is relative, and for some of us that's going to be a loooooooong wait, but it's amazing how time flies when you are having fun! And before you know it September 26, the Sunday when episode 401 - "Reunion" - airs at 7:00pm on CBC television across Canada, will be here. Okay, 7:30pm for our friends in Newfoundland.
Now before I tell you what's happening on set and answer some questions, a little about the photos I've put up to accompany this post. These are all photos that Andrew Bako, Heartland's trusty stills photographer, took one day last fall while he was on a walkabout. The first is of course the Heartland Ranch, where you can clearly see the house, the quonset hut and the barn.
The second is a shot of the barn from a different spot on the acreage, and the third photo was taken only a short walk from there. We can never have too many photos of the Heartland ranch nor of horses now, can we?
On set yesterday filming wrapped on episodes 407 and 408 and today episodes 409 and 410 began filming under the watchful eye of director Grant Harvey. I've had a peek at the scripts and OMG are you guys going to freak out after you see these two episodes!
But enough about things that are so far down the road. Has anyone seen the series preview for Heartland? It is now playing on the CBC. Watch for it, and when you see it let me and other fans know what you think of it by posting here. I'll have to get a copy soon and get it posted here, but keep an eye out when you watch CBC this weekend.
Speaking of this weekend... last week I wrote about Millie the Massey tractor. Well, the time to see what fate awaits her is going to be at the annual Priddis Millarville Fair, when the draw is made at 4:00pm this Saturday. If you're in the area you might enjoy going to the fair, which features horses, a tractor pull (not Millie, I think), sheep shearing, a petting zoo, a talent show and a pie eating contest, to name only a few. Also, Heartland's Amy - Amber Marshall, along with Jack - better known as Shaun Johnston, and executive producer Michael Weinberg, the man who started it all by purchasing the rights to Lauren Brooke's series of books, will be on hand. They are going to participate in a unique event, the "Cow to Latte" competition, where participants have to milk a cow and then froth it up in an espresso machine and make a latte. That event is going to take place at 2:00pm.

Yep, that was one of Amber's cats. The lucky kitty made his way onto the screen!

Tim WILL have a girlfriend at some point in Season 4. 7) Tina asks, I was wondering if they have ever mentioned a middle name for Amy. I know that Lou's is Samantha Louise, but I don't recall one for Amy. You have not missed anything. Amy's full name is Amy Fleming, without a middle name. 8) Steph asks, I was wondering if there was Heartland on in Victoria BC? If you mean can you watch Heartland in Victoria the answer is of course! On CBC, channel 2, which is the Vancouver CBC station. Heartland airs right across Canada and does not penalize anyone for living on an island. 9) mallory bell asks, I live in America and want to know what channel the Christmas episode will come on. any chance you can get the DVD of Season 3 together faster? The Christmas movie, entitled "A Heartland Christmas," will air this December on the CBC in Canada. If you are in the United States, a reminder that Heartland will begin broadcasting across the country starting the week of September 18. There are a lot - like millions - of folks south of the 49th parallel who have to get Heartlandized (there I go again) so Heartland will begin airing with the very first episode, which will begin the process of getting America tuned in and turned on to Heartland. As to the date for the Season 3 DVDS - expect them to come out in Canada next year. I'll announce the date here as soon as I learn of it. 10) Shannon H asks, have you (BW) ever met the cast of heartland or do you do all your blogging off site? [Blog Whisperer: ILH will indeed be closing down (to everything there is a season and all that...) but don't despair - I've got some fabulous stuff lined up here on this site for Season 4. As for stuff on your ILH account, it's not going away right this second - there'll be a few weeks in which you can pull out anything you need. Let me know if you have trouble with this, and feel free to move over anything you like to the Heartland Community forum here. Other things like galleries, etc. you may see around here in the future (of there's a desire for such things)!]

As a child I grew up on a farm and learned how chickens laid eggs calves were born and all the other aspects of farming. Later on in life I visited a friend who had a chicken farm and tried to show my kids where the eggs come from. They only thought it was magic and made me think how sad it is for a city kid who will never know the beauty of owning a farm and all the skills required to run a farm. You are teaching these young people more than you know. Instead of going to summer camp I think every boy and girl should spend one summer on a farm.

Has anyone who had a picture taken with Amber Marshall at the Orangeville, Ontario rodeo last month had trouble buying their pictures online? I have sent several messages to the ikorimages website where the picture gallery is and have not received a reply yet. I tried calling the phone number also. I ordered my photos but have no idea how I am suppose to pay for them. The site doesn't seem to allow you to complete the online order process. i know that for a show to keep making episodes, it needs high ratings right? well what if people (like me) watch heartland on the computer instead of the tv, does cbc or whoever it is count us? because it would suck that maybe most people watch the show on the computer (on the website or on youtube) and the ratings on television go down or something...just wondering

As I write this it is less than 2 & 1/2 hours until the final episode of season 3 here in Australia, it airs on Saturday night at 6:30pm which is about 3:00 am Saturday morning in Calgary. We will have to wait until about March/April next year before we see season 4, I don't know how we will cope, the internet may be our saviour!!
BW can you help answer a question I have tried asking the ABC here which airs Heartland, but with no success. Obviously you are very high up in the CBC and you must have a lot of people that work for you and respect you, then with your wonderful expertise and knowledge can you find out if the Christmas movie will be airing in Australia over Christmas or will we have to wait until after they show season 4?

Now, I have a question. Okay, I always have lots of questions, but for once, this one does not involve comfort food! Now, over the summer I was working as a volunteer guide at a horse ranch. I got to meet people from around the world, got to do more horseback riding than ever before, and had an absolutely fantastic time. Yes, I know, that's not a question. I'm getting there. Part of my job was to give people a short, half hour crash course before we headed out on the range. So, first thing I had to teach them: how to get on a horse. So, I went through the basics: always get on from the horse's left side, foot in stirrup, etc etc. However, the one thing I had to tell people over and over, hundreds of times, was to use the horse's mane, not the saddle horn, to help pull themselves up onto the saddle. The reason my employer gave me for this was that, by grabbing onto the saddle horn, the rider could pull the saddle out of position and also hurt the horse's back. So, I spent half of my summer repeating, "Grab the mane-- NO! Not the saddle horn! Use the mane!" And then I sit down to re-watch Heartland, and saw Amy, Jack, Ty, Mallory, Caleb, everyone... getting on their horses with the help of their saddle horn. So, finally, here's the question: is it safe to mount a horse using the saddle horn, as long as one does it properly? I'm assuming it must be, and that my employer was telling me to get our city slicker clients to use the mane because they didn't know the proper technique. Anyone got an opinion on this?

I can assure you that Season 3 is definitely not slated for release until 2011 at the earliest - the DVD's have not been made yet and they haven't even chosen cover art. I saw tonight's episode again where the horses get strangles and have to be quarantined. I remember someone mentioned when this episode was first on that strangles is caused by a bacteria and not a virus as mentioned in this episode. I had checked on the internet and it is indeed caused by a form of bacteria. I am curious as to why they said it was a virus and if a cast member or someone in the production end or one of the writers knew this. I would think certainly Amber Marshall would know. Any idea why they said it's a virus? Also still waiting to find out about my pictures from the Orangeville rodeo. I'm hoping for something soon.

We receive this wonderful program in Australia and I hope it will continue for many years to come I am interested in where the Heartland Ranch is located and if it's open for a visit as I am planning my third trip to Canada early next year.
