Yep, filming began on Monday on the large acreage near Millarville, Alberta that doubles for the Bartlett ranch on CBC's family television series Heartland. Click though for the full details!
Last year at this time day one of production found the cast and crew on a deserted closed highway near Elbow Falls, as episode 301 - Miracle - began filming. Although it was a sunny day there was recent snow visible on the ground and everyone had their jackets on well into the day.
Yesterday Mother Nature was much more cooperative, as the cast and crew had a glorious prairie spring day with a high of 25 degrees Celsius (That's 77 degrees Fahrenheit, for those of you in the United States, Burma, and Belize).
Anyway, in the middle of the first day of filming Andrew the stills photographer found the time to take a couple of shots to share with fans everywhere.
The first photo (above) is of Amber Marshall (Amy) and Graham Wardle (Ty), enduring the grueling hardship that is film production [yes, I'm kidding - everyone had a great first day]. But don't jump to conclusions - were they actually filming Graham, or was he just visiting the set to say "hi"? I'm not telling...
In the second photo we have a lot going on.
That's Shaun Johnston (Jack) holding the shovel, talking to Grant Harvey, who is directing the first two episodes of Season Four. To the right Kerry James (Caleb) is getting his hair and makeup touched up before the camera starts rolling.
Those large white frames in the background are reflectors, used to bounce the light of the sun on the actors. This way the sunlight evenly illuminates the area and there are no harsh shadows when the filming starts.
The camera is on a track behind the cast, about to film a scene that seems to involve a hole in the ground. What's THAT all about? Once again, your intrepid Blog Whisperer has spies on set who can get us these images, but I can't give away too much, or they will never share these photographs with me again!
What I CAN share with you is an answer to something a lot of people have been asking, namely "When is Heartland going to be broadcast in the U.S.A.?"
Well, good news - Season One will begin airing in many American markets beginning September 18. Please don't ask me which stations will be carrying the series, or on what day or time, as that is still being sorted out, but yes - fans in the United States will soon be able to tune in and watch Amy, Ty, Caleb, Lou, Jack, Tim and everyone else on their local channels. When I have more details I will - as always - share them with you here on the blog.
More questions will be answered on Thursday, but I just wanted to give you these two photos, because I promised I would.

Okay ... here goes.
Val found out about what Caleb and Ashley did last season (the season finale) or what they almost/intended to do. She's not so happy, so she calls up Jack and tells him she needs a favour. And the favour is ... burying Caleb. She has done a 180 and does not want Caleb near Ashley (again). So, Jack is digging a hole to bury Caleb in - which explains Kerry's dirtied jeans. When they are done with their break and getting makeup touched up ...Kerry will have to get back in the hole and let Shaun finish burying him.
I'm going to say that Amy is distracting Ashley somewhere near by. I'm pretty sure Ty is involved ... even if he is not part of this scene per se. I bet he helped Val talk Jack into doing it. I know we all thought Caleb and Ty were buddies ... but let's face it. Caleb kissed Amy AND wrecked Ty's motorcycle. That's not cool.

Season 4 wow thats crazy i remember reading the books and thinking what a great show this would make look at it now i cant stop watching this show and love that everyone in it is from canada. Everythings great, Theres always something around the next corner in heartland...and you're never to sure whats going to happen Amy and Ty make it interesting as for everyone else ! Love Heartland, and can't wait till season 4! I think it's great that it's different to the books. What I find annoying, though, is that I live in England, and only season 1 has been shown. It doesn't look like season 2 or 3 will make it over here. I managed to watch it because I didn't want to wait, so I watched them all on youtube. Can't wait till sept!
