THE OFFICIAL HEARTLAND BLOG

The latest installment of the Heartland Q&A - Amber Marshall

Who is this?

I'll be putting up Michelle Morgan's answers for you to read later in the week, but because it is Monday and we need something to do now that the Olympics are over (besides looking forward to a new episode of Heartland this Sunday!!!) we give you Amber Marshall! Click through! And if you're reading this on Facebook you need to go the the CBC Heartland website to send in a question! So what are you waiting for?!

Okay, so this is your chance to ask Amber - who we all know as Amy Fleming on Heartland - a question.

As always, please try and be original and I must stress - ONE QUESTION ONLY. Here's the thing: anyone who asks more than one question will not have any of their questions even considered, no matter how awesome they are. Sorry, but I have to do the "tough love" thing this time, as I have a teeny little suspicion that we're going to get rather a lot of questions. That being said, she is totally looking forward to your questions, so ask away!

Amber's answers will appear next week.

So have fun, and perhaps Amber will be able to answer that question you've always wanted to ask!

What is your overall favourite part about being on this show. Is it the acting, working with the animals or the cast and crew?

Hey Amber, really glad I can ask YOU a question. You are awesome as Amy.
I really enjoy watching scenes with Amy & Ty together, altough they are not always cute...

So here is my question for you: I was wondering how many of Amys riding scenes you're doing yourself. By example the last scene of episode 301 'Miracle'. Was that really you jumping about the fences with Caesar or was it just a stuntman?

Anyway, keep up your awesome work!
Greets from Germany.
Take Care, Tiishirt (:

Hey Amber! I'd decided on your question ages ago, and I'm very pleased to at last get a chance to ask it! May I just say first though, that I think you are a very talented young actress and I look forward to seeing you every week in a new episode. Now for the question: Do you use any of the 'Heartland' treatments (T-Touch, Alternative Medication etc.) on any of your own horses? Thanks!

Heya Amber! Firstly, you do an awesome job as Amy. I read the books, but didn't know there was a tv show (i live in england) until a couple of years ago :) ok, so my question is.... Have you always wanted to be an actress/work in a vets, or did you wanna do something completely different when you were younger (like being an astronaut or summin'!)
Big hello from rainy england,

My question: In all three seasons so far which was your favourite episode to shoot and why???
Also want to let you know that i love the show and you guys are amazing!

Hi Amber,
I am a huge fan and love the way you act amy.
I was going to ask as well as tiishirt if you ride all of the jumping and those kind of scenes yourself.
Do you still ride off the show?
Do you have your own horses?
ha ha ha so many questions...... sorry!
Thanks so much

You do a great job acting Amy, and you make us all so jealous of her, in a nice way. Wouldn't we all love to have a horse like Spartan,a loving family, great friends, and an awesome job like Amy does? Not to mention her wonderful boyfriend... Seriously, CBC should start up a "Heartland Dude Ranch" so all the fans can have a taste of Amy's life! So here is my question: If Amy were a real person and you were an objective observer, who would you say has the better/cooler/nicer life? Amy or Amber? And yes, Blog Whisperer, that's one question! I would add a "why?" but I think then I risk getting disqualified!

Keep up the awesome work.

P.S. Do you ever remember any of the fan's that you meet? Because i have met you and Graham at the 2009 royal winter fair!

Hi Amber!
My question to you is this : If you had any say in the matter (and from a fan's point of view - if you were to watch the show like the rest of us, not knowing what to expect) what would you like to see happening to your character next season and in the near and not-so-near future? Where would she end up? Married (;P like Jack seems to be implying)? Working as a vet? What do you think would be best for her in the long run?

Hi Amber!
First off, I want to tell you the amazing job you do as Amy! I don't know how many times I've watched an episode of Heartland and could relate to some of the emotions that Amy is going through!!! I've also became a fan of some of the other work you've done too (ie. The Christmas Shoes and The Elizabeth Smart Story)...and I must say, The Christmas Shoes has become my new favourite Christmas movie and I don't think I've ever cried so hard in my entire life!! And The Elizabeth Smart Story...all I can say is wow!
I also met you at the Royal this past year (I was the fellow Woodstonian) and you were so sweet! Having you ask me questions definitely helped me become less nervous. Although I still feel bad asking you and Graham to switch spots for the picture....Next year I promise to stand next to you! lol. But the picture is still my background on my computer :)
Now for my question, which is hard to narrow down to just one. But here goes....What has been your weirdest/most unusual/most awkward encounter with a fan, or weirdest question they have asked you and why would you say that it was the weirdest?
Thank you for your time and keep up the awesome work! :)

Hi Amber,
First off, you are a wonderful actress and I thouroughly enjoy watching you on screen. I also really appreciate knowing that working with animals is something you enjoy doing on and off screen. I imagine that this only adds to your acting skills. My question is this....Heartland is based on a series of novels. Did you read these books when you were younger? And do you draw inspiration for Amy's character from the books if you did? Thanks, Sarah.

Hi Amber! I just wanted to say how talented you are, both as an actor and as an "animal kindred-spirit"! You can tell just from watching you that you really connect with the horses on the show. I'm so glad we finally get to ask you a question, as I've wondered about this all the way back from Season One. In "One Trick Pony" is that you riding Pirate in the closing scene (standing on the trick saddle) or is is a stunt-double? Thanks so much for helping to bring such a high quality Canadian family show to the screen. Keep up the GREAT work!

Hey, Amber!

I just wanted to say that you are doing a wonderful job as Amy! As a big fan of the books, I wasn't sure if the show was going to be as good as the books or how much stuff was going to be changed. But I was worried for nothing. It's like you just stepped out of the pages of Lauren Brookes Heartland books, you are Amy Fleming of Heartland. Keep up the awesome work!

Ok, now here is my question;
If you have read the books, is there any storyline from the books that hasn't been told on screen that you would like to do? (I hope that made sense.)

You are an amazing actor! I love Heartland and it's my favorite show EVER! I can't wait for the movie! :)

My questions are; Do you do all of the riding for "Amy" or do you have a stunt rider? I read you had previous hunter/jumper experience, that's really cool! (I'm a Three-day Eventing rider, but have enjoyed some hunter/jumper schooling shows.) My other question is: Do you have Graham have a relationship "off camera"? Are you friends or in a relationship? Just curious!

I know, I know, it's just I'm making this doggone list, and... well, yeah. Anyway, keep up the great job acting, and watch out for rampaging fans! (they get really bad in the spring time, when they come out of hibernation...)

Now for the question: You have mentioned that you work in a vet clinic when you are not shooting, as well as doing some photography on your own. Did you ever consider one of these "hobbies" seriously as a career, or has it been acting all the way!?

Hey Amber!

I am so excited to be asking you a question! I really admire your acting skills, and you are great with horses! I want to be a natural theraputic horse healer like Amy when I am older! My questions is... of all the methods that you've had to do on the show (t-touch, different herbal remedies) have you tried any and have they worked? At the horses at my barn, I use t-touch on them sometimes, if you haven't tried it you should, it really works!

Hey Amber so first I just want to say that you are an amazingly talented actor, very beautiful, and a great role model for girls around Canada, especially to me. So keep at what you're doing because you are truly meant to be doing some form of film/television. My question is when/how did you first start acting and do you have any advice on starting out in the career of acting?

Kathryn wrote:

Hi Amber! You're totally amazing! Graham thinks so too (for survival). Here's the deal. I asked him if you two were to be stranded on a deserted island, how did he think you would contribute to his survival and how would you be of no help at all.

"She would be vital to my survival. I have no clue what's edible and what's poisonous. She has a wealth of knowledge about wildlife. She would probably be no help at all in the rescue effort. I bet she would want to stay there and live with the animals!"

So, my question for you is, how would Graham contribute or not contribute to your survival on the deserted island?

Thanks in advance for answering questions for us. You rock ;)

Hey Amber! WoW, time and time again you continue to amaze me! Your portrayal of Amy is so genuine and original and always truthful, and you're so good at drawing people into whatever Amy is going through; like we get to go through it with her, if that makes sense. Hehe!

I was a big fan of the Heartland books before the tv series came out, so I watched that first episode of Season 1 very critically. I already had very set views on all the characters, and I wasn't sure that actors could do it justice... Well, I was wrong. The whole team - cast & crew - do a phenomenal job!! I apologize for ever doubting you in that way; just a few minutes into the first episode, I figured you must have been born for that role! And that scene where Amy is telling Jack that it was her own fault her mother died - WOW that was powerful! I was a goner! Haha! You're amazing! =)

My question is, what is something in life (either big or small) that you haven't done yet but would love do?
For example, I'd love to one day ride in a hot air balloon, and hold a toucan. =)

I'm looking forward to seeing you in many more projects in the future! Blessings...

Hi Amber,

I am really excited that we finally get to ask you questions! You are my favorite actress, and I find that the work you do on Heartland to be very inspirational. My dream is to one day work with horses like Amy does! Often, I find myself wanting to be just like you! I hope that one day I will be able to meet you and the other cast members. You all should come to the US some day!

My question to you: Do you own any horses?

Love,

Hi Amber!

You've done a GREAT job with as Amy! I love what you've done with Amy's character in the show versus the books. Thank you for all your hard work. :)

My question is... How would you compare Heartland to other shows/movies that you've done and other shows on TV right now?

Blessings,

Hey Amber, first off you are a remarkable actress and really bring magic to the Heartland series. My question for you is who is your favorite acting horse to ride on set. I don't know if the same horse is used for the same part or if they always change though ( if so they look the same to me,lol ) hope this made sense. Keep up the amazing work :D We love you here in Vancouver!!!

Second of all, WOW, you are the best rider and actress ever!!
Ok, out of the million questions I want to ask, here is my one:
If you had to be a kitchen appliance(for example; microwave, waffle maker, milkshake maker, toaster) what would you be and why?

Thank you for bringing Amy to life, you are definitely the best person for the job!

Dear Amber
I am a Heartland lover from France.I wanted to tell you that I think you wonderfully perform the role of Amy. There is a kind of light emanating from the character and you manage to show it, especially in the episodes with Victor Whitetail. So I suppose that this light must be in yourself too.
Now my question: do you plan to come to France to promote Heartland, or a film, or maybe only for tourism?
Take care

But I was fascinated when I watched it. It's amazing how you fit into the role of Amy. They couldn't have found a better actor.

Congratulations on it :) My question for you is: Amy deals with a lot of complicated emotions, and good ones too. When it's required to cry, or be scared, how do you really get into the moment (like think of something personal, etc.)?

Thanks for being so great, you're a fantastic role model :)

In real life you would be considered a horse whisperer...you seem genuinely connected with the horses on the set...what about your life outside Heartland...
I think this talent and connection with the horses would be also part of your real life...
What is the most challenging episode dealing the horses and how did the cast and crew deal with it...horses as any animal, can be unpredictable, albeit one of the most intelligent animals as well.

Hey Amber, I love you soooo much! As I'm sure yoy already know, you are a great role model. You're such an wonderful actress. Some scences that you've shooted in the past, are just amazing. I only discoved there was a Heartland tv show at the beggining of season two, so I went online and watched all of season one and now I don't talk about anything else. My best friend would get so annoyed with me because apparently I'm obsesed with heartland but then I introduced the tv show to her and I think she actually might be beginning to understand why I love it so much. The heartland set is like my dream home, the beautiful house, the barn (that's my favourite!), the dude ranch and everything... Anyways, onto my question.... So many things to ask... What to choose... OK. I narrowed it down to two questions, I hope that is not a problem. #1 What type of things do you do with the other cast members when you're on set? #2 Do you pefer english riding or western and what do you like about it (ex: jumping, barrel racing etc.)
Thanks so much for your time. From Heartland's BIGGEST FAN

Heartland wouldn't be Heartland without you, so I guess that makes you the 'heart' of the show. It's an awesome responsibility, and you're doing an incredible job as Amy with the marvelous support of the rest of the super cast. Keep up the excellent work!

Here's my question: We've seen your character singing along with Country music recordings Lyndy Bartlett made on the show... it didn't look like voice over dubbing to me, so is singing one of your passions? (If so, your singing voice is lovely).

When you ride there is such a obvious natural skill, so i have to ask, when Amy is shown riding in various scenes (trails, jumping, etc) is it always you, or do you have a stunt double?

Kinda of a random question, but, around two years ago, in the summer, were you in B.C vernon at a lake in the summer?

Hi Amber!

Can I just say I absolutely love Heartland, and the whole cast, but I think you're my favorite. I love how you act, and you're the best actress for Amy. I'm also soooo jealous of your hair! :P

My question is: What part do you love doing the most. Is it shooting scenes with Graham, James, Jessica, Michelle? Or is it working and riding with the horses? I'd love to know, and I can't wait till the next episode!

Keep up the awesome work,
Cara.

Hi Amber

First I have to say you are a wonderful person I really admire you!
I wanted to ask you something about your role in "The Elizabeth Smart Story". What does it feel to portray someone who really exist?

Best wishes from France.

hey Amber,
You are doing so well as Amy, keep it up! Your so beautiful and all the shows's British fans love you! I was wondering, I saw a video on YouTube of you singing at this event. Have you ever wanted to sing on the show and have the directors weave your singing into the plot? I thnk it would work fantasitcally especially as your voice is so perfect! Love you so much and thnx a lot!

Hello Amber! This is Tim from Buffalo. Thank you so much for the wonderful autographed picture and personal note. I received it the day after Christmas. I really appreciate it. You are very thoughtful and a class act and I hope someday soon you will visit Buffalo so I can thank you in person. I would enjoy meeting you and the other terrific cast members in Heartland. My question for you(this is perhaps different and personal but they said to be original)...have you ever received any offers for dates or marriage proposals from any nice, eligible gentlemen out there? Whatever guy ends up marrying you someday will be very lucky to have you. You have some really nice qualities judging from your interviews that you've done. I hope I am not embarrassing you or being too personal. I apologize if I am. Please take care and keep up the great work on the show

Is it easy to learn all your lines? Do you have any brothers and sisters? Are the new episodes going to be good? Will Ty and Amy break up?I absolutly hope not. In the episode Man's Best Friend, at the end when Ty gives Amy the Promise Ring, does it mean they promise to get married someday? And thankss again for all the work you do.You are awsome!!!Say hello to the rest of the cast.Thank you again.

Hey Amber!

I just have to say, you portray Amy so close to what I had imagined from the books; there were just some small differences. However, your acting has made it so that I almost forget what the Amy I imagined while reading the books was like.

So, my question is, what was the name and temperament of the first horse that you ever rode in your life? I'm really curious to know!

Thanks in advance for answering all of these questions, Amber! You're awesome!

Hey Amber! Your so good as Amy! My question for you is... After you have an emotional scene with Lou or Ty what is it like Afterwards? Are the emotions still there, or maybe things a little awkward. Thank you SO SO much! I have to tell you I freaked out when I heard there was a heartland show because I love the books SO MUCH!!!!!!

You are awesome on the show. Heartland needs to hit the road and come to Manitoba. On the show, which do you prefer, Jumping or riding on an open field?? Alone, or with someone else??

Thanks!

Hello Amber,
I'm French and I've just discovered the series. I immediately loved it. I wanted to first congratulate you for your role, you're doing a fantastic job. Amy seems sincere and genuine. So my question is: Is it hard to play sadness before the cameras? I lost my mother at the age of 8 years, due to cancer lodge, now I have 21 years and I feel very badly that role before the cameras.

- have you a date with Graham in real live?

Greaatz a big fan of you.

I'm sorry, my English isn't very good; I'm from the Netherlands!!!

Hey Amber! You do an AMAZING job on Heartland! You capture Amy's character beautifully and I can't imagine anyone else playing her part! The first time I saw you in the film/TV world was in The Christmas Shoes and that also was fabulous (you were so much younger then)!! In that movie, you had a couple singing parts, so my question is do you miss being able to be in a TV show or movie that involves singing or do you do other vocal things on the side? You have a beautiful voice and if I were you, I would be looking for every opportunity to use it! :)

Amber,
I cannot tell you how much happiness you bring into my life each week. The work that you do touches me in a way that no other TV show or movie does. Heartland has started to feel like my home because of the way that you and your cast mates make it seem real, not like a fictional place. Thank you so much for what you do. You are so talented and beautiful, and the way you bring Amy to life amazes me. She is not at all artificial, but a real person. I hope that one day I can touch people's lives the way you have touched mine.
Question: When you are on the set, do you feel like the members of the cast are people you would have ordinarily become friends with, or do you think Heartland is what has brought you together and made you as close as you seem?
Thanks, keep up the good work :)
