Season 3 Third Episode - Sunday, October 18 at 7:00pm

Episode 303

Well, on set this week the cast and crew had nothing short of a miserable time, as early October snowstorms wreaked havoc in the Calgary area. The past two days saw over 600 (yes, SIX HUNDRED!) car accidents in the city and as a result it made getting to the exterior filming locations very difficult. Add to this the fact that there was no desire to have snow in the current episode that is being shot and it has made for some long hard days on set.

But beginning today the thermometer is supposed to climb back into somewhat warmer and more seasonal temperatures so hopefully this brief taste of winter will be a memory as the weather returns them to something resembling autumn.

This Sunday the third new episode of season 3 will be broadcast on the CBC at 7:00pm (7:30 NT). Entitled "Man's Best Friend", the episode was written by Heather Conkie and directed by Dean Bennett.

Some people like things just the way they are and they resist change every way they can. Certainly Jack Bartlett has some of this characteristic in him and he shows it in a big way when his faithful old pickup truck stops being so faithful. Both Lisa and Jack's family try to convince him to get a new vehicle, but the whole exercise brings back memories for Jack, explaining his reluctance.

Also in this week's episode Peter returns, making things understandably more pleasant for Lou, and Ty turns to Lou for help when an upcoming date with Amy appears to hold some anxiety for him. Jake is also back, with a problem cow pony that Amy agrees to look at. And of course, Caleb's on-going 'how do I reclaim my trailer from Ashley' troubles takes another turn.

Enjoy! Then (of course!) come back here and tell everyone what you think.

This looks like another hilarious episode, if the preview and pictures are any indication. Bonus that it's another Heather Conkie script. Really looking toward to seeing if the gang can get Jack to take Ol' (un) Faithful to the junkyard and finally get some new wheels. And Lou teaching Ty how to dance? He's taking this dating thing very seriously (guys take note: girls love this kind of thing). And Peter and Jake are back? What more could we ask for in an episode?

Is it Sunday, yet?

Awww that's to bad, but i'm glad you were still able to continue to film the show. i'm glad we did not get snow that bad here in manitoba. I sure hope Jake come's out of thinking of always wanting for things to stay the same, ya it's a good thing that you like things the way it is but you kind of need to be flexible when things like what happen to his pick-up. Come on Jake you must of though that it will happen one day. lol
I can't wait for sunday, i hope Ty and Amy have a great date and i can't wait to here what Lou will tell him. Is it time to watch Heartland yet? :p

And the picture of Lou teaching Ty to dance (I'm guessing that will make an appearance in the anticipated 'date' scene) looks so cute! Can't wait to see that part. Plus, I like Ashley's dress. Her and Caleb look so happy. Aw. I'm not much for Caleb or Ashley but they're good together. Sunday can not come fast enough!

I just have a quick question about the music portion of your website. Are you going to continue it for season 3? I found this an easy way for me discover the music for the episodes and to be able to buy the tracks/artists I liked.

Season 3 is off to a great start - keep up the good work!

Instantly, when I saw that trailer, I was excited. It was an exceptional trailer: it gave us the idea, got us amped, and got us impatient. So, fantastic job by whoever created it. Some other trailers left me lukewarm--this one left me bubbling over with excitement. (little symbolism there, heh heh...okay, I've been working too hard on my fanfiction! ;) )

Anyway, can't wait to see what Heartland brings us...the day after tomorrow! Da da da dummmmm...

Could you put little captions of what is going on in the pictures at the top of the screen. that might give a little bit more of a hint of the next episode. episode 303 hasn't even aired and i am exicited for episode 304 (the haunting of hanley barn)!

Still can not find the dvd here in truro, Nova Scotia. Not sure where to find it. Oh well it will apper sometime.

LOL I loved the Amy, Lisa talk about guys too. The whole time i was shaking my head, STUBBORN yeah... and your not.
It was also nice to see Ty and Lou get along you never really get to see them together it was nice.
Peter's back. and MAX IS BACK!!!!!!!!! Love the doggy!
It was cute to see Mallery and Jake too. There really cute together!
Calebs so funny, I sorta feel sorry for him. He and Ashley are cute! They were just like Amy and Ty in "Dark Horse."
Awww Jack got his car back in the end! I think it was better for him to keep it after all.
Nice job with Ty's car at the end. (Like Lisa and Jack) It was so cute how they danced on the car.
GREAT EPISODE!!!

Amy and Ty are so cute together, i was scared when Amy got upset but I'm glad it's all good, also with Lisa and Jack too. I can tell something's going to happen with Lou and Peter. I can sense it! Also just wondering, why haven't we seen Spartan yet? I hope soon 'cause he's the star horse with a lot of history with Amy that we all love!

Can't wait for net weeks FOURTH! episode!!!!!!!! :D

GREAT show tonight. The writers did a great job having a show revolve around some relatively simple stuff, such as buying a truck and going to a school dance. It really allowed the characters to be more relaxed ... and more real. I think they should do more shows like this.
And it also had some really funny parts, such as the line Ty said about Jack bringing his car to the dealership "while you can still drive it there" ... and Ashley and Caleb laughing over the trailer ... good times!
I will say it was kind of disappointing that they didn't actually show the school dance, as I also wanted to see what happened with Ashley and her date. It would have been so cool if Caleb would have showed up and crashed the dance just to see Ashley and ask her to dance. That would have been GOOD. As well, it would have been nice to see Ty and Amy dancing and interacting like that for a longer scene then they did. I feel like most of the scenes are still very choppy and seem rushed ... really wish the writers wouldn't feel so stressed out to cram every show with all of these scenes and character stories. But still really love this show!

Loved tonight's episode, very sweet. I won't say more, I don't want to spoil it for BC fans !
Keek up the good work, it's really worth it ! Good television is hard to get nowadays.
And please add my voice for translating the show in french...not for me, but for all the francophone girls who would LOVE this show !!

AHAHAHA i love lou trying to teach ty to dance but it got a little awkard there with Peter around.
My favourite part had to be the last scene when amy and ty are dancing on the truck. The lighting was just so PERFECT!!!!!! It kind of reminded me of a classic country music video. Something from taylor swift. Oh wait, that tim mcgraw song by her lol.
I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT SATURDaY!!!!!!!
Just a suggestion, but I think heartland should have a 2-hour special or something.

Peter and Lou are so great together I hope they stay with eachother. Its also really nice to see Jake back in the show! Well I think Season 3 is starting off really strong. But when they were facing on the truck it was sooo cute and romantic! And the promise ring was so sweet of Ty. I hope that goes somewhere in the episodes to come. Promo for the next one looks great, some mystery coming in. Wish it was next Sunday already!

Such a good episode! The best part was when Caleb drove to the trailer and hitched it up and he was all mad. I was laughing like crazy. I don't think him and Ashley should be together though. They should only be friends and I would like to see Ashley and her mom make up, esp. with her mom's illness. Peter came back which was good because Lou was being so whiney. I love Peter's dog too, but I'm waiting for Scott to come back!! Good to see Jake and Mallory getting along and being friends, that's great. Jake's pony looked really good, I loved him. Jack's first new truck was so nice, but seeing how happy he was at the end with an older new truck and the old truck was nice. I wonder what's going to happen with him and Lisa, married anytime soon? Really good episode- good job everyone!

This was my favorite episode so far. I loved all the stuff with Jack from the opening scene when Lou is helping Jack to get ready to go to the wedding to all the memories of his wife giving Jack the truck It made me cry. Jack is such a special man and a special character. The love he had for his wife as well as the love he has for his granddaughters and Heartland make him who he is. He is so loving towards Lisa also and you can tell she loves him for all his simple ways.We also really enjoyed all the Amy and Ty and Lou and Peter stuff. Lou teaching Ty to dance was great and Amy and Ty dancing on the back of the truck was awesome. WOW! This show is the best. The actors are just fabulous and the writing this year so far has been great. Keep up the great work. We look forward to this specail show every week. Thanks to all involved.

While watching this episode I laughed and cried, and laughed some more.

I really love how this series is growing organically. The conflicts and resolutions that are arising are starting to feel a whole lot more natural and plausible There could be the temptation to insert any old conflict just for the sake of having friction between characters, but the series writers seem to be doing a good job avoiding that in Season 3. (Yes, TC is all about realistic situations). Thumbs up to Heather Conkie for another excellent ep.

Oh, poor Jack. I think we were all wondering just what his attachment to that old rust-bucket was. Sure, some people are sentimental about their vehicles, but Jack's devotion went way beyond simple sentiment. Shaun did a masterful job looking like he was absolutely heartbroken when he was told the truck was being junked. His face just had "ANGUISH" written all over it. I totally teared up when he dreamt about Lyndy at the fishing cabin. It was so sweet, and so moving to know at last why he wanted to hang on to that truck. And then to have Lisa show up right when she did... ahhhh, just perfect. Sure it may have been a little on the clichéd side, but I like when romantic moments peek at the right time. (It's the one time I can allow realism to take a vacation). Besides, we all wanted her to show up, and we're all glad she did.

Amy and Ty. Things just keep getting better and better. One wonders where Ty learned how to be such a gentleman. I'm thinking he's been learning a lot from Jack, just by observation. Jack is nothing like Brad, or the abusive person Ty's step-dad was, so Ty must be thinking "I don't want to be like those other guys". Good for Ty. It was so nice to see that he didn't give up with the dance lessons, and was willing to let Amy be upset with him over his little... omission. Props to Lou for not spilling the beans to Amy about the covert dance-lessons. She totally understood how much Ty wanted to keep it a secret, and didn't betray that trust even when it could have put Amy's suspicions to rest.

Caleb and Ash and the Trailer. BWA-HA-HA!!!!! Oh, my. What are they going to do when the day comes that they don't have the trailer to fight over anymore? These two are so much fun to watch when they get in each other's faces. (Digression: Is it just me, or was Ashley's date for the dance really cute?) I wonder what it will take to get Ashley to go home to Val... Caleb makes the valid point that Ash is stubborn and spoiled, and that she needs to get her butt back to her mom's place. Will she? Won't she? What if (heaven forbid) Val dies? Who will handle the family business? These are questions Ashley needs to start thinking about quite seriously. Or maybe she's just too scared to think about stuff like that right now, which is one of the reasons she's holed up in that trailer.

Lou and Peter. We didn't see a whole lot of Precious Pete, but it was nice to see him again, nevertheless. His easy-going attitude is once again making it very difficult to dislike him. I'm still holding out for a Scott and Lou reconciliation, but I don't see it happening unless something particularly drastic and tragic takes place. If Heartland weren't a 'Family' drama, and instead a more 'adult-oriented' show, Peter would already be labelled 'cannon fodder' in my book, aka Red Shirt, aka, a goner before too long, because he's a only 'recurring' character + nice guy + love interest. And those kinds tend to have a short shelf life. I don't want anything untoward to happen to PW, but I'm just sayin'...

So next week, we have a Halloween-y episode. Looks spooky!

Is it Sunday yet?

THE SONG PLAYING AT THE END OF THE SHOW (I'm putting this in capital letters so it will stand out to anyone who is wondering!!) is called "MODERN WOMAN" by MATTHEW BARBER.
While the song was playing in the episode, I caught a few of the lyrics and typed them into Google, and then the song came up. I downloaded it IMMEDIATELY, of course, and now can't stop listening to it!!
They have used Matthew Barber's music before -- LOVE HIS MUSIC.
Hope that helps!!!

Aaah, what a lovely episode. So many things to love in it. An episode like that is what Heartland is all about. It was the perfect recipe: lots of relationship development, with two sweet but minor horse stories (the grieving horse and the jumping cow pony that will be a shared bond between Mallory and Jake).

GUY-ANALYSIS:
CALEB: "I'M NOT JEALOUS!" Right... Poor guy, it must be rather embarrassing to have a whole restaurant full of people watching you and your ex-girlfriend have a heated conversation, especially when her new not-quite-as-hot-as-he-is-supposed-to-be date is among the crowd. Even better: his enraged attempt to uproot his trailer with Ashley still in it. But it was so sweet how he gave up and let her stay, then went and picked up her dog. Somehow I think the dog is a symbol of their relationship: when they were fighting, it barked at him. Now that him and Ash are getting along better, so are him and Nikki.
JAKE: Was there any doubt that he would refuse Mallory the chance to learn jumping on his pony? Nooo... he would give her anything she wanted. Sounds like the poor little guy is a bit short of cash; maybe he's still broke from helping Mallory escape from that private school.
PETER: Yaaay! He's back! I have to admire this guy's infinite patience. And I'm so glad for Lou's sake that he can see past her little flaws to the wonderful person she is. With all her insecurity, she needs a guy like this. And I sure hope she gets to keep him.
JACK: Aww, I never knew a pick-up truck could be so touching. That is all I will say about him, because I think everyone shares my feelings about this storyline!
TY: A good episode for him! It was touching the way he confessed his inability to dance--so insecure. As Elise mentionned, it was neat to see him interacting with Lou. Loved the way he held up the picture of a truck after Amy and Lou pointed out the safety benefits of a new vehicle. And the ending! So perfect, Ty. All guys take careful notes. I must say that he handled a truck breakdown much better than Jack! He didn't get grease all over Amy's lovely Paris outfit. He told her he wanted to be with her rather than arguing about ESP with trucks. Then he turned on some romantic music and voila, an impromptu but oh so romantic dance in the bed of a pickup. And even a promise ring, which bodes well for the future (for those who don't know, like me before I went on Wikipedia, it's a pre-engagement ring)! I was glad that they turned down the offer of a ride to just enjoy their moment.

Hmm, I'm getting pretty long-winded. I think I will have to save my Girl-Analysis for a later date...

I tried to watch the episode on the website and for some weird reason I can't watch it. The little screens comes up, but I can't press play... The way that the episodes used to be before season 3 worked fine, but this new version doesn't. Any suggestions?

This was honestly one of the best episodes of Heartland ever. I liked Jack's reactions to everyone pressuring him to buy a new truck. The horse scenes were nicely balanced with the relationship stuff. The ending scene with Amy and Ty is awesome - beautiful sunset, they both look so good and really happy. Adorable. Keep it up! Thanks for working so hard to produce a great show.

I so agree with you Samantha "it would have been nice to see Ty and Amy dancing and interacting like that for a longer scene then they did. I feel like most of the scenes are still very choppy and seem rushed ... really wish the writers wouldn't feel so stressed out to cram every show with all of these scenes and character stories". I have thought the same thing. I really enjoyed the first and second season when the stories focused longer on the interaction between characters and things about them. Ty's father for example. I think the show is at its best when the fine acting is highlighted. For example, when the camera stays with a character when emotions play out on their face. Scenes particularity with Amy, Ty, and Jack's character's interacting. I love the show and hope that more of what I mentioned continues, that not too much is crammed into an episode.

Yaay, I can finally come back and finish ranting about this wonderful episode.

GIRL-ANALYSIS:
AMY: Sue mentioned that the simple, every day issues led to some great acting. I must agree, and I found this especially the case for Amy/Amber. I loved how she was enjoying the new-car smell! There were several scenes where I was like, wow, Amber is so into her character. I also found it interesting that Amy was being a touch controlling in this episode--usually that is more Lou's domain. Poor Ty--let's hope he never makes her jealous!
LOU: Will she ever learn to relax a little? But I feel lots of sympathy for her because she really is insecure. I mean, Scrabble?! Better go with romantic canoe on the lake. Just don't fall in... And of course, she is still blurting things out: no sooner does she say that women would be better off without men than she is rushing into Peter's arms.
ASHLEY: At first, when she started laughing about the trailer, I wondered if that was true to Ashley. Later, I remembered the whipping cream and realized that it was: Caleb brings out her light-hearted side. And then, the soft look she gave him, so different from her usual glares, aw man, these two belong together.
LISA: She is a saint. I mean, grease on a Paris outfit, and yet she is still so patient and understanding. It worked that she was a little annoyed with Jack, but I knew she would forgive him. Another couple that works really well together.
MALLORY: Hmm, she seems to be on just friendship terms with Jake, but I wouldn't be surprised if he still wants to be more than just friends.
SORAYA: She should have snatched up that "frat boy" for herself and forced Ashley to go with Caleb to the formal. Though Caleb might not have fit in wearing that jean jacket...

I must agree with Amber O. that there was excellent balance between horses and people in this episode (leaning maybe a bit on the relationship side, which is perfectly fine with me!). The moderator was right in reassuring us that this season would satisfy everyone!

Speaking of reassurance, I think I need some more... I guess I'm really impressionable, but that trailer for next week in keeping me awake at night. I have to admit I'm actually dreading the next episode, because I really don't like scary stuff. I love Heartland because it's happy, comforting, familiar. So here's hoping it will be just a very good mystery with only a few scary moments...

This week's episode was so good. I loved that Peter came back; it made for a happier Lou. Amy was gorgeous in this one, but then again when is she not? I was worried about Ty and Amy's relationship for a while there, but thank goodness it turned out to be fine. More that fine. They are perfect for eachother in every way. It made me a million times happier when Ty told Amy that she was the only one he wanted to be with. Their chemistry seems so real and genuine on set. I think that everyone out there is looking for that kind of relationship. The promise ring was so beautiful and it gives all the viewers high hopes for the future. I hope Ashley moves back in with her mother soon so Val won't be alone, Caleb will get his trailer, and Ty can have the loft all to himself again. I would also like to see Caleb and Ashley get together; at first I thought that Caleb was going to try to get Amy back, but so far so good in that situation! Mallory is looking much more grown up this season, and Jakes pony is adorable. Well, I guess that says it all! Can't wait 'till next week

I loved this one! Wow I think this one hit home the most so far! I have a love for old trucks and have had to part with a few of my own. If I had a back forty they would be here still. But I have gone back to sit in them a few times. :-) One of my favorite memories is still sitting on the tailgate of my early 80's FORD when Trevor propsed! ( I couldn't keep the truck .... but I still have the tailgate in my backyard!) :-) Thank you this one was well done! Keep it up!

Wow, I feel horrible. I've been neglecting this blog, horrible, horrible person that I am. I think I may be taking college a little too far--it's starting to get between me and Heartland! Time to quit this education thing and get back to the essentials. ;)

Gotta say that this episode, for me, was one of the best. Why? Less horses, more relationships. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Because it was all just so darn good, I'm going to limit myself to a Twe's Top Three, because otherwise you'd be stuck reading a top three hundred...and I don't think my fingers would still be functioning properly after that.

At number 3: Caleb and Ashley. Trying to rip his trailer away? Hiiiilarious. I'm a little disapointed that he didn't go through with it....and didn't kiss Ash when she so, so wanted it. But still. Give them time, and they'll be one strong couple.
At number 2: Amy getting her promise ring. That was sooo cute, dancing in the back of a pickup truck. How the lady stopped to ask if they were okay... how we were all relived Ty didn't do exactly what Jack did, and ruin Amy's dress... and of course Amy's sweet surprise at Ty's dancing skills. Aren't trucks handy, boys? Girls just love 'em. And that's why the next one was, for me, number 1....
NUMBER 1: Jack getting his old pick up back. I would have been so depressed if he hadn't. So what if it's just a truck? He loves it to death and he should never, never part with it. Make it into a flowerbed, or some form of decoration, I don't care. But Jack, don't get rid of it if it means that much to you.

For all this, Twe is seriously worried. She saw the trailer for next week's episode. Is she impressed? NO. Since when is Heartland into the "haunted" side of life? It's a family drama, not "Supernatural". And if it goes into the supernatural, it's not staying true to its real essence. And Twe refuses to watch a show which plays with the dark side. So it better be about a prank. Or Mallory making up stories. Or anything. But if there's actually ghosts? ... then Heartland isn't the show it's supposed to be.

[Moderator: well you're going to love episode 17 - it takes place in outer space! ]

[... kidding!]

sorry if i repeat anyone's I'm not trying to "steal" your idea"

my computer is doing strange things right now, and i just deleted what i had wrote, but i think it posted some earlier, so sorry if it turns out strange.

i'm getting tired of re-typing this, so i'll shorten it.

i loved the episode. some content that is so real life, it makes you forget. ie: Amy smelling the truck, and Lisa saying "no scratches" and Ty's worries about taking Amy to the dance. so Legit.

around 17 min, ( i think) there's the picture of the sunset, that's in dreamer. i think it's in season 1 ans 2 as well!! like heartland's star page! cool:)

i liked how we got to see Lou and Ty interacting so much. the dancing scene with Lou, Ty and Peter was so funny!! i have a lot of favorite parts from this episode., and i won't write them all.
but when evreyone was trying to convince Jack to get a new truck for safety reasons, and Ty holds up the picture. another favorite of mine:) i've nicknamed this his "Vanna White moment" so funny:)
loved the use of flashback. we got to see Jacks past literally, and not just hear about it. very well done. i like the very end for sure, but the first time i watched it, i didn't even notice, because i was still having a breakdown about the state of Ty's truck!!! oh no, my prediction came true, and i'm so sad. hopefully Ty will be able to work his magic, and fix his truck!
a great episode!!!!

the preview for the next episode is looking scary!! I'm glad for a themed episode, but i hope it's not to frightening. watching scary movies takes mental preparation, which i don't normally partake in before i watch heartland. i guess it'll be rated the same, so it can't be to bad.

anyways, waiting till Sunday as always:) xoxoxox

This week's show was the best ever! Mainly due to the superb scenes with Caleb. I laughed and laughed when Caleb hitched up the trailer to move it and was only spinning his tires. Caleb showed he is really a very kind soul and most of the time just finds himself in difficult situations. I wait in anticipation for Sundays so I can watch the next (extremely well acted) difficult situation regarding Caleb. Caleb makes this show as he adds spunk, as you never know how he is going to react. Well done Caleb and I have become a dedicated fan!

For all those of you who loved the 3rd episode but are dreading the next one...i too hate scary but one of my favourite episodes is "Nothing Endures" with the fire and Jack. It really showed a lot of emotions, changed the character a bit and showed you what the actor was capable of. One thing i hope to see in this haunted episode is a lot of good acting from everyone!! And then after please no more hauntings or supernaturals :) Can't wait to see what will happen between Mallory, Jake and Badger! And how will Ty help Amy??? One thing is for sure i will always be addicted to heartland! :D

Just a quick comment, I will be posting my WHOLE critique on this episode at a later date, as life is taking up a lot of my time :)

Anyway, if I hear the phrase "I can't dance" one more time I'm going to scream! I was at a wedding awhile ago and I heard lots of "I can't dance"'s. And they didn't really dance at all at the end, sure for a split second, then the rest was just plain rocking back and forth. I thought the ending was... Cute. Not romantic, not tear bringing, just plain old adorable. I must admit I split a gut laughing when Ty brought out the ringbox, I bet THAT blew Amy's mind!

And I split my other gut laughing when Ty claims he went to bed early than Caleb accuses him of coming in at 2AM, does that sound BAD!!

I think Kerry James did awesome in this episode, particularily when he hitched up his trailer and the yelling match with Ashley.

I think Amber Marshall had a cold for most of this episode, as her voice sounded pretty "off" for most of this episode.

Ty should have traded in his ancient truck years ago, now I guess he's going to have to! I liked Jack's old "new" truck way better than the brand new truck, it just wasn't him.

Well, next episode should be interesting, I have to admit, when I read the description on the calender, it sounded like something from Scooby-Doo. I was wondering if this year there would be a "Halloween" themed epsiode, TV shows are so much better when they go with holidays. It'll be interesting to see what happens on Heartland when it takes more of a Supernatural twist!
