After a year of planning and preparation the Art Gallery of Hamilton's new satellite location opens Saturday at 10 a.m. You can find it at 118 James St. N.

The gallery considers the Design Annex an important new service where people will see experimental exhibitions and discover new pieces of art and crafts at the Art + Design store.

Many of the things for sale at the new retail store are the work of local artists and artisans.

The annex will be open Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The annex is closed on Mondays.

The back section of the new location will be home to what the AGH describes as a creativity lab where experimental exhibitions are mounted and small, intimate performances are held. A series of music performances, Annex Unplugged, launched June 29 in the 1,500 square foot area venue.

CBC Hamilton was at the media launch of the new annex on Wednesday. We have posted 150 photos of the event in two galleries on our Facebook page.

You can see the first gallery of faces at the launch here.

You can see the second gallery of items for sale at the annex here.

Beaux Mondes, the Hamilton lifestyle blog, also has posted a story about the new annex.
