The pedestrian hit by a car in Hamilton's east end last Wednesday has died.
The 72-year-old woman died Saturday afternoon in hospital. This is Hamilton's first traffic fatality involving a pedestrian this year.
The woman was hit by a car on Wentworth Street near Aikman Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said she was crossing from the west to the east side of the street, and was hit by a car turning to drive south on Wentworth Street.
Both police and emergency services went to the scene.
Sgt. Debbie McGreal, spokesperson for Hamilton police was not able to comment on whether the woman was crossing at a designated crosswalk, if the driver is being cooperative with police or if any charges are expected.
“That's all part of the investigation,” McGreal said.
Police will not released the women's identity at the request of the family.
Hamilton Police's collision reconstruction unit is still investigating the accident.
