Police arrest seven on impaired driving charges over weekend

Hamilton police had their hands full this weekend, with seven drunk driving arrests on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday saw three drunk driving arrests. The earliest arrest was made at 1 a.m. when Hamilton Police arrived at a collision at Upper Ottawa St. and Unsworth Dr.

A 35-year-old Hamilton man was charged with impaired and blowing over the legal limit.

Saturday night, two more arrests were made.

Around 6:30 p.m. a 64-year-old Hamilton man was charged with impaired and blowing over 80 mg.

At 10:30 p.m., police were called to a bar on Barton St. E. and Varga Dr. after a man left the bar to get into his car.

Police found a driver behind the wheel and say he blew over twice the legal limit.

A 54-year-old Stoney Creek man was charged with impaired driving.

Four more drunk driving charges were laid in a three-hour period early Sunday morning. Between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., police arrested a 34-year-old man, a 24-year-old man, a 58-year-old man and a 26-year-old man.

Three of the drivers were arrested in separate incidents after crashing vehicles into snowbanks.

One driver was charged with dangerous driving after police spotted a vehicle travelling at 172 km/h in a posted 80 km/h on Highway 5 near Middletown Rd.

All the arrested individuals were released on a promise to appear in court.
