Police are searching for a suspect after a beating in a central Hamilton pizza shop sent a man to hospital early Sunday.

Around 2:40 a.m., police were called to Double Double Pizza on John Street South. A shouting match between two men and another customer had quickly escalated into an assault, police say.

The two men punched and kicked the victim repeatedly, and he suffered “significant facial injuries,” police say. The assailants then fled the restaurant.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries. Police located and arrested a 23-year-old male from Hamilton, while the other assailant is still at large.

Police say the victim and the suspects don't know each other.
