Police have identified the victim of Hamilton's sixth homicide of 2012.

Officers were called to the area of Blake Street and Maplewood Avenue Thursday afternoon and found 25-year-old Shaun McCann of Hamilton on the street bleeding heavily from his neck.

McCann later died in hospital and police determined he'd been involved in an altercation in an area home.

A knife believed used in the attack was recovered during the investigation, police say.

Shortly before midnight Thursday, a man turned himself in at Hamilton's central police station.

Steven Corbett, 25, has been charged with second-degree murder. He appeared in court Friday.

Staff Sgt. Dave Beech said that police are not looking for other suspects, but are “always welcome to more information.”

Anyone with details related to the case are asked to contact Det. Peter Thom of the homicide unit at 905-546-3843 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
