MP Justin Trudeau will be in downtown Hamilton Wednesday night for a meet and greet that's open to all. Trudeau will be at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom from 6 to 8 p.m.

The appearance comes just one week after the eldest son of the former prime minister Pierre Trudeau declared his run for the Liberal Party's federal leadership.

The Hamilton stop is part of Trudeau's push for the top spot in the Liberal party. So far he's been to Montreal, Calgary, New Brunswick, Vancouver and Mississauga, said Liberal organizer Elyse Banham, who is also a midwifery student at McMaster.

Hamilton will be Trudeau's third stop Wednesday. Earlier, he'll appear in Burlington and Kitchener-Waterloo, said Banham. Organizers are expecting a healthy attendance. Banham said that Trudeau has been getting at least 1,000 people at each appearance, with 1,300 showing up for a recent appearance in Mississauga.

Former MPP for Hamilton Mountain Marie Bountrogianni will introduce Trudeau, who is expected to speak for 20 minutes. After his speech, which will focus on his reasons for running and his hopes for reinvigorating the Liberal Party, he'll be mixing with the crowd.

Admission is free.

The leadership race officially starts on Nov. 13. On April 13, 2013 the party's new leader will be announced.
