The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA has ambitious plans this weekend.

It aims to find homes for five animals an hour for every hour they are open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“We know that’s a big number,” said SPCA communications co-ordinator Meredith Marino.

“Normally a good weekend for us means between 12 and 15 adoptions.”

But the SPCA is offering a special rate this weekend to make it easier to adopt. You could call it half-price dogs.

For dogs, the rate has been lowered from $325 to $150. Cats will be $50 down from $175.

The animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

The organization has been heavily promoting the event through its social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook.

“The response we’re already getting is very positive,” Marino said.

The Adopt-A-Thon will run from Aug. 24 to Aug. 26 at the Dartnall Road Hamilton/Burlington SPCA and will mark the organization’s 125th anniversary.
