A suspicious fire gutted a building in the east end of Hamilton early Saturday, police say.
"Shortly before 4 a.m., we got a call there was a fire and a possible explosion," said Staff Sgt. Jack Longhorn. "When we got there the place was totally involved with flames."

The store at the corner of Ashford Boulevard and Main Street East had most recently been a 7-Eleven, but was being turned into a Subway restaurant.
"When I came out the front door to see what was going on, there was a fire and an awful lot of smoke," said Gord Weatherby, who lives across from the building.
"I couldn't see much for all the smoke, Weatherby said. "So I went back to bed - I took my hearing aids out so I wouldn't hear a thing."
Fire crews were still at the fire scene Saturday afternoon to make sure no part of the rubble flared up.
