An off-duty Hamilton paramedic stepped in to help save an elderly man's life Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton paramedics professional standards manager Carmen D'Angelo said at about 4 p.m. Saturday, an 85-year-old man who was camping with family at the Flamboro Valley Camp Ground near Waterdown suffered from cardiac arrest.
The man's son started CPR, but a female off-duty paramedic who was at the camp ground by chance took over to help, said D'Angelo.
The man regained a pulse and started breathing on his own. He was transported to Hamilton General Hospital.
D'Angelo said he checked in with the hospital Sunday and the man is "doing fine."
