What made CBC do this program? I heard that BBC did a show
like this. What gives?
In Fall 2002, the U.K.'s BBC Two launched Great Britons .
This was the first time a series of this format was broadcast.
Here at CBC, it struck us as the sort of debate Canadians would
love to have too. Check out some of the other
countries that have launched their own "Great" debate! |

Who chose the Advocates? What were the criteria?
The advocates were invited by the CBC to participate in The
Greatest Canadian . Advocates need to be pretty comfortable
on TV, and be ready to build their "case" for their nominee. They
should come from different backgrounds, not just journalism or
history but also music, or comedy or even politics; after all,
this isn't just a run-of-the-mill television series. But most important
of all: they have to be deeply passionate about their "Great" nominee
in order to make the most compelling case for your vote! |
