Canadian rock music star Melissa Auf der Maur presents
a passionate case for her Greatest Canadian, David Suzuki,
on Wednesday, November 17 at 8 p.m. (8:30NT) on CBC
Television.
Melissa Auf der Maur was born in1972 in Montreal, Canada. She was born to Nick Auf
der Maur, a well-known journalist and politician and Linda Gaborieau, Montreal's
first female rock DJ. Auf der Maur was raised in Montreal and was a photography student
at Concordia University, but left in 1994 to join the band Hole (fronted by Courtney Love)
after a recommendation from Smashing Pumpkins bassist Billy Corgan. In addition to
playing bass guitar and singing, Auf der Maur plays piano and trumpet.

Auf der Maur left Hole in 1999 and toured with the band Smashing Pumpkins until
2000. Between 2000 and 2004, she worked on various projects with other groups
until her solo debut, released in the summer of 2004, called Auf Der Maur.
