Dr. Michael Melchin
St. Francis Xavier University

Dr. Melchin specializes in the areas of invertebrate paleontology - the study of prehistoric invertebrates by analyzing fossils and stratigraphy - a branch of geology that studies layers of rock. In particular, his research focus is the study of graptolites - fossils of extinct marine organisms found in rocks.

Dr. Melchin received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at University of Waterloo and his Ph.D. at University of Western Ontario. In addition to his faculty position at St. Francis Xavier University, he is an Honorary Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University, Department of Earth Sciences, and an Adjunct Professor in the Earth Sciences Department at the University of Western Ontario.
