SATURDAY August 18

0700 There's always something to laugh about on CBC Radio's The Debaters. You can hear host Steve Patterson and his comedic guests later today...right after the one o'clock news. And be sure to visit The Debaters' website for more information about the show and future recordings

0730 Rob McConnell's Boss Brass set new standards for big band jazz. But Rob's premature passing in 2010 seemed to spell the end of the Brass. That was until some of the band's former members decided to pay tribute to its founder with a special Boss Brass Reunion concert. It's happening at this weekend's Prince Edward County Jazz Festival. Brian Barlow is the Festival's creative director---he's also a past-percussionist with the Brass. Trumpeter Jason Logue joined the Brass for a cross-Canada tour in the late 1990s. They both joined Mary to talk about the Boss Brass and why it was unique.

The Boss Brass Reunion concert takes place at the Regent Theatre in Picton on Sunday, August 19. All the details are on the PEC Jazz Festival website.

0800 Summer is traditionally a time to consume beer. But as people discover the wide range of craft beers in Ontario, they're increasingly matching those beers with different foods. Professional beer taster Mirella Amato suggested a variety of pairings when she joined Mary.

0830 Shannon Kyles covers the heritage architecture beat at Fresh Air. Shannon is a columnist with Arabella Magazine and a professor of architecture at Hamilton's Mohawk College. She took Mary on a virtual tour of Ontario to "see" some of the architectural gems scattered throughout the province. It's something that anyone who's interested in hertitage architecture can easily do with a series of day trips.
There's lots of information about heritage architecture at Shannon's
Ontario Architecture website.
The audio for this item will be posted on the following Monday.
