UPDATE
When we left Patrick
O'Sullivan nearly three years ago, he had
just been drafted by the Minnesota Wild of the
National Hockey League. Since then, he has continued
to shine on the ice, showing remarkable playmaking
and scoring abilities.
Patrick spent the 05-06 season with the Wild's
American Hockey League affiliate, the Houston Aeros.
He was named the AHL's Rookie of the Year
and was the AHL's top rookie scorer with
47 goals and 46 assists.
This June, the 21-year-old was traded to the Los
Angeles Kings along with a first round draft pick,
for one of LA's top scorers, Pavol Demitra.
The Kings are rebuilding and have high hopes that
the young sharpshooter will be a key part of the
club's future.
"We're excited about having Patrick," Kings' coach
Marc Crawford tells the fifth
estate. "We
know there's still some work to do to get
him to an optimum NHL level, but we really believe
that he will get there and that he'll be
a very good player for the Los Angeles Kings for
many years."
As always, Patrick is succeeding despite the abuse
he suffered growing up. He has not seen his father
in years and has no plans of reuniting.
"I just don't see anything that would
be positive out of it," Patrick tells the
fifth estate.
On November 2, after playing 12 games with the
Kings, Patrick was sent down to the King's
AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs. As the
fifth estate's Bob McKeown reports, it likely
won't be long before he is back in LA. Patrick
certainly isn't showing any signs of slowing – on
November 18 Patrick scored his first career natural
hat trick in Manchester's 5-0 shut-out against
Toronto.
