The original lottery ticket is redeemed at the Variety Plus convenience store in Burlington where Jun-Chul Chung and his son work. The ticket wins a free play for the draw on December 26.

The Super 7 draw that night is worth $12.5 million dollars.

Kathleen Chung goes to the prize office to claim the jackpot. She does not tell officials that she is related to the people who work at the store where the winning ticket was validated. She also cannot remember any details about where or when she purchased the ticket.

The OLG hold on to the prize money. In an email on this date, one official details his concerns about the Chung claim.
December 26, 2004
The Super 7 ticket expires. Some time after this date, the OLG awards all the money to Kathleen Chung. There is no fanfare and no press release.

Ontario’s Ombudsman, Andre Marin, announces he will investigate the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
March 26, 2007
The Ombudsman’s Report is released. Included in the report are details of several suspicious wins, including the Super 7 free play ticket for $12.5 million. See the report.

Minister David Caplan orders the OPP to review all wins by retailers and insiders.
