UPDATE
In the four years since we first told you this remarkable story, we've kept in touch with the main characters. And a lot's been happening to them.
Quique is still in the United States. He's been on the move, doing home renovations in a dozen places, including New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and now in Philadelphia .
Quique's family worry about him "having too good a time", and he has had a brush with drugs, but that seems to be in the past --he's now been joined by his brother Joel, and Joel is considered a good influence on him.
At Christmas, Quique sent his family in Honduras a refridgerator, a TV, a stereo, video games, clothes and tools. And when his son, Angel, recently needed to see the doctor, Quique sent money to pay that bill.
Quique hasn't seen his travelling companion Eber in more than a year, but he reports that their friend Daniel is in New Orleans.
And up here in B.C., teacher Karl Machado says that Edwin Radaules now lives in Salmo, a small town about a half hour away from Nelson. For the last four years, Edwin has been working in tree planting, seasonal work but quite well-paid, and in the off-season for trees he works in construction.
Mr Machado says that Edwin is enjoying life, and keeps in regular touch with his family in Honduras.
