TIMELINE
Day 1:
Quique and his friends left Tegucigalpa, Honduras
and traveled by bus travel to Talisman, Guatemala
on the border to Mexico. Read

Day 3:
They crossed the Suchiate River
into Mexico at Talisman and then hiked through
jungle to Tapachula about 15 km away. Read

Day 5:–
At Tapachula, Mexico the boys jumped a train north.
They encountered a police raid and were robbed
by the notorious Mara Salvatrucha

Day 7:
Quique and his friends arrived in Tonala, Mexico
after the robbery. Read

They encountered the 'food givers' in Juchitan
Mexico en route to Mexico City. Read

Day 10:
The entire group was arrested en route to Mexico
City. One of the boys
arrested with Quique brides the police with 100
pesos (about $10US).

Arrive in Mexico City and then travel north to
Villa de Reyes.
Day 18:
Quique and his friends find work in Villa de Reyes
for three weeks while they contact relatives.
They need to borrow $2000 each to pay a professional
smuggler 'coyote' to take them safely into the

Day 39:
Having arranged for a loan Quique and Eber leave
Villa de Reyes for a town closer to the U.S. border,
Piedras Negras.
Day 43:
The journey into the U.S. begins. Quique and Eber
cross the Rio Grande with their coyote.
Day 44 –47:
Quique and Eber spend three days marching
through the Texas desert. They find a hunters
lodge where they eat and re-charge the battery
on the coyote's cell phone. A van comes to pick

Quique arrives in Uvalde and heads to a safe house
in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He is held hostage
while the coyote demands another $1000. Eber leaves

Quique escapes the coyote and is picked up by

Day 53:
