Bob McKeown: I MEAN WHEN YOU CONFRONT [DAVID FROST] FOR THE FIRST TIME WHAT'S YOUR APPROACH?
John Jimenez Well, that's a good question because we weren't sure whether he was a bad guy or a good guy. In fact that's when I sat down – that was one of the first things I said to him. I said, Dave you know, one of two things is the situation here, either you're a bad guy because you came down here to kill Mike Danton or you're a good guy and that means that somebody was being sent to kill you.
And you know of course he was completely shocked. He was shocked – either way –that somebody would accuse him of being a hit man, but also the fact that I think that he was starting to realize what it was that if he wasn't this hit man, then that means that he was – that Mike wanted him dead. And that was – you know – that was very hard for him to accept.
Bob McKeown: WHAT WAS THE PROCESS WHEREBY YOU BECAME CONVINCED THAT IN FACT HE WAS MIKE DANTON'S AGENT AND HE WAS THE INTEDED VICTIM?
John Jimenez Just in interviewing him about when he had gotten to St. Louis, how he had gotten access to Mike Danton's apartment, the fact that nobody else had had access to the apartment. I mean, just through the interviewing process it became extremely clear that Mr. Frost was the intended target.
And at that point in time I had to start trying to determine a motive – you know – of why would this professional athlete want his sports agent killed? During the interview process, there were a number of things that concerned me. And I talked with Mr. Frost about them. You know, not having any familiarity with how sports agents, sports agent/professional player relationship is, you know, I can't say for certain that it's not normal for a sports agent to stay with the athlete, but that was certainly one of the things that we talked about that seemed, you know, kind of odd to me.
Bob McKeown: WHAT DID YOU ASK HIM ABOUT THAT AND WHAT DID HE RESPOND?
John Jimenez I just said – well, why are you staying in Mike's apartment? He said, well you know a lot of times I'll come and stay if Mike's going to be out of town, I'll watch his apartment. I said okay, but this isn't a case where – I mean – you had come – he had said – I think he had said he'd gotten there two weeks prior to that – a week prior to that and that he had brought his wife and kids along to stay.
I said, so let me get this straight, you, your wife and two kids were living with Mike Danton in his two bedroom apartment? And he said, yeah, that's normally what we do when we come and stay. So that was really puzzling to me and we talked a little bit about the other players that he represents and the fact that he does the same thing with the other players that he represents and I said well, it would seem to me if you were representing me as my sports agent, I'd want you to stay in a hotel. He said, well I could do that but then it would be – it would be really expensive for the – for my clients and I don't wanto to – you know – cause them unnecessary bills so.
There was enough things like that though that were really kinda concerning because it didn't seem to me that it was typical, you know, professional relationship, a business relationship. You know- money being a possible motive crossed my mind and so we started talking about the contract and the fact that there wasn't specifics as to the contract that …
Bob McKeown: HIS CONTRACT WITH MIKE DANTON AS HIS AGENT?
John Jimenez Right- that he could tell me about, you know, seemed kind of strange.
Bob McKeown: SO HE COULDN'T TELL YOU, I GET 10% OF MIKE'S EARNINGS…?
Right. Right. It was a little strange. He couldn't really explain to me exactly what the agreement was, but he did say that Mike had owed him money. And you know at that point in time I thought well maybe you know – maybe that could be a motive.
…
Bob McKeown: DID YOU TOUCH ON ANY OTHER SOURCES OF FRICTION – POSSIBLE FRICTION BETWEEN DANTON AND FROST?
John Jimenez Yeah, we had talked – we had talked about – if they had been in any fights – you know – recently.
Bob McKeown: HAD THEY?
John Jimenez And they had.
Bob McKeown: ABOUT WHAT?
John Jimenez Dave Frost said that the day before and then into the morning, that Mike was going to San Jose, that they had argued and it was over Mike sleeping around with women. Frost was explaining to me that it was very important for him to not have Mike do something, you know, have some sexual contact with a women that was going to turn around and end up suing him or getting pregnant or something that Frost felt would harm his career or hurt his career.
Bob McKeown: DID THAT STRIKE YOU AS BEING A LEGITIMATE POINT OF CONTENTION?
John Jimenez Not really. Not really. Not the way that Frost was explaining it to me. The best way that I can describe it is if in my mind – if I was a professional athlete and you were my sports agent, I'm going to tell you what to do. I mean you're going to get me the best contract and – but I'm the employer - I'm employing you and there was no – there was no sign of that whatsoever.
It was more like what I would describe as maybe a overbearing
parent-child relationship and when I say child, I mean – I
mean child. It was that was kind of the – and this is just
Frost explaining to me about his relationship with Danton and how
things worked. It wasn't what I would've thought that
the relationship, you know, would've been.
