Mike Statnyk: Yeah, there is something special about Jimmy. Jimmy was always willing to step it up one. Jimmy crossed the line. You know most criminals will respect a person, a member's family.
You know there's boundaries that you as a policeman have, but there's also boundaries that you know that criminals have. And they you know they know where to step and not to step.
You know Jimmy, Jimmy wasn't used to being told, he wasn't used to being – you know there was, how do you say it? He was used to getting his way.
Linden MacIntyre: AND IT DIDN'T MATTER WHETHER YOU WERE WEARING A UNIFORM OR NOT OR CARRYING A SIDEARM OR NOT –
Mike Statnyk: No, not at all.
Linden MacIntyre: HE WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION?
Mike Statnyk: Oh, he was paying attention, you know don't get me wrong. He was paying attention. He'd pay attention in great detail.
Linden MacIntyre: I MEAN I'M NOT A COP, BUT DO POLICE OFFICERS GET WORRIED ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE THAT? I MEAN DO THEY, DO YOU SORT OF, DOES IT NAG AT YOU THAT THERE'S SOMEBODY FLOATING OUT THERE THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HARM YOU, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR NEIGHBOURS?
Mike Statnyk: There's people in every community that you know that say stuff like Jimmy says and you know that go to a certain length. And no, you can't dwell on that and you can't you know let it affect you know your life or your family's life.
Mike Statnyk: But with Jimmy, there'd come a point where yes, you'd be a fool not to take him serious. And you're, you know when it gets personal to the point that you know it comes back to you that you know he's tried to hire somebody, or has hired somebody to kill you, there has been a dry run made past your house –
Linden MacIntyre: THIS HAPPENED?
Mike Statnyk: Yeah.
Linden MacIntyre: TO YOU?
Mike Statnyk: Yes.
Linden MacIntyre: HOW DID YOU FIND THAT OUT?
Mike Statnyk: Actually, I found that out through the individual that was supposedly given, that Jimmy wanted to –Linden MacIntyre: TO GIVE HIM THE CONTRACT?
Mike Statnyk: Yeah.
Linden MacIntyre: AND HE TOLD YOU?
Mike Statnyk: Yeah.
Linden MacIntyre: AND WHAT WAS, YOU KNOW, WHAT DID YOU DO? I MEAN WHAT –
Mike Statnyk: Well, of course, I'm concerned. You know I knew Jimmy's methods, I'd seen how he you know intimidated witnesses. I knew how he worked. You know it started with the little drive-bys past your yard, sitting in the end of your driveway.
You know and he was you know you do hear that you know when I had got here, he hadn't shot two people. But you know there was, and I think you'll find out, there that he had shot people. We had heard of that.
And but he'd never been charged for, with it because you know those people were too afraid to come forward. And in dealing with him, I mean you know there's some credibility to it and you've got to take it serious.
I was concerned with my family. I became concerned enough to the point, in all honesty, that I thought there would come a time when it would be a likelihood that I would probably have to shoot Mr. Roszko on my property out of fear for my life or my family's life or safety.
And that's when I started to document things. You know I documented it with the Mounted Police. I later documented it with, after he sued me.
