so many loving and creative people have rushed to new orleans to try and fill the gigantic hole losing helen hill left in us and our city many, many, of us continue to be inspired by helen, paul, and frannie and can only keep trying and loving
This was a good story for Fifth Estate to cover, and shows that a lot of persons have a naive view of the world.

I met Paul when I was a second year nursing student at Dalhousie University. Although he would probably not remember me, I remember him because he left a lasting impression. At the time he was a medical student and we met while both doing clinical work at the then VGH in Halifax. He was, and I am sure still is, a very kind, caring and intelliegent doctor. I remember how an elderly lady from Sydney was so impressed with his compassion and excellent medical care that she offered to put a good word in for him in Sydney at the hospital there so he and his girlfriend (Helen) could move there after he graduated and start up a practice. He took a lot of his own time to explain clinical things to me that no one else (including my own instructors) ever did. He had such charisma and genuine interest in my opinion (remember, at the time, I was an 18 year old nursing student who was having a hard time seeing the forest through the trees) of the patient's condition that his influence has stuck with me throughout my own career as a nurse. He was like that with everyone. Although I only had a few interactions with Paul, I never forgot him, and I don't think I ever thanked him for taking the time to teach me. When I saw this story last night on TV, I wept for him, his wife and his son. What a tragedy. Life isn't fair that such an awful thing has happened to one of the nicest and most genuine people that I have ever met.

It breaks my heart every time I think about her. She was so sweet. I was in the very last class she taught at NOCCA in December 2006. She was teaching us about cameraless animation. It was really hard not to instantly fall in love with her. I came back to school after New Years only to find out she had been murdered. I cried, went to the rally at City Hall, and cried some more. She will truely be missed.

How tragic.
How such a beautiful life and family could be so ruthlessly harmed. And they worked every day to make it better for others...
It defies all that is good in this world.
I was amazed at the interviewer's question, "Do you really think President Bush didn't care?" when interviewing the engineer who had run the computer scenarios of a large hurricane hitting New Orleans. He had, afterall, talked to white house representatives, FEMA, etc. And they did what they have been doing for years now...ignoring the whole issue of the levees built in 1964 ONLY to withstand a Catagory 3 hurricane. Bush's administration had cut, once again, the budget to upgrade some of the levees only the year before. It was very obvious to any American with 1/2 a brain that he didn't care, hadn't cared nor did he do anything to correct that in the years since. Putting money into infastructure would mean taking money out of someone else's pocket after all. When you compare the levees in many places in the US, we are a third world country. And no one cares.

It is hard to believe the state that New Orleans is in after so long. If I am correct they got the football stadium rebuilt in a hurry. Just goes to show what is important and what takes priority. No police station or computers that work all the time but they have a state of the art football stadium.
Sad state of affairs for the USA

Was that a crappy feed from you guys last night, or from my local cable network.
All I know is that the episode on my pvr is a disaster. Too bad. It looked like a great show.
My heart goes out to the father and son that such a heartless, senseless and more than likely unsolved crime like this was committed to such a beautiful family that came to the city with good intentions to help.
I am tearful to hear that the only eyewitness has now passed, making it a cold case. More than likely never to be solved.
The story brought tears to my eyes.
