Among the Believers: Discussion
Originally broadcast on January 17, 2007 | Comments 4
Last summer, Toronto's mostly moderate Muslim community found itself in the glare of unwelcome public attention from the international media when eighteen men were charged with plotting terrorist attacks on Canadian soil.
A Muslim fundamentalist who infiltrated the cell reveals the inner workings of the cell and its members. These are young men who have adopted a brand of Islam that they believe sanctions jihad in their home city and against their fellow citizens.
Are you concerned that the terrorist threat facing Canadians at home is real, and are authorities doing enough to prevent it?

We owe Mubin Shaikh (and the other unnnamed informant) a collective thank-you for their loyalty and service to this country. He said he's a Muslim before a Canadian, but one's service and committment to God doesn't detract in any way from that loyalty, which was very evident here. And the fact remains without his assistance, a great evil would have been purpetrated on this country.
It is this kind of strength of character which is the stuff of greatness and which deserves public citation lest yet another Canadian hero go unsung.

It seems to me that this radical version of Islam is not limited to a specific location or continent. It is more than just a few bad apples in suburban Toronto. Where do they get their ideas? DO they read the Koran? I don't know much about Islam or the Koran, but I know a little about "Christianity". Apparently, Jesus taught somehting like...."Love your enemies and pray for those who want to hurt you"......something like that.
I have a question for someone with a level head and some knowhow about the Koran. Here is the question;
"How does the Koran say that we should treat non-believers and people who want to hurt us?"
TO me, the problem with Christianity is that it's people don't live by the example of Jesus. You can call them hypocriites if you like. THey don't live by the literal teachings of the one they claim to follow. Is that the same with these so called radical militants? Do they not live by the litereal teachings of their book? Or are they living out the literal teaching of their faith?
Thanks.

I read a item in the National Post about the story today. It said that the suspects were involved in plans to set up a safe house in Opasatika, Ontario. I wonder how they thought they could blend into a predominately french-speaking town of 600 in northern Ontario?
