Water Barons, How a Few Powerful Companies are Privatizing
Your Water - a book produced in 2003 by the
International Center for Investigative Journalists,
part of the The Centre for Public Integrity in Washington,
DC. The book features stories on private water concessions
in France, South Africa, Philippines, Indonesia,
Colombia, the United States, Canada and Australia.
University of British Columbia Assistant Professor
Karen Bakker served as a program consultant on Dead
in the Water. Her research focuses on water governance,
the political economy of environmental change, and
environmental philosophy and politics. Her
recently published book, An Uncooperative Commodity:
Privatizing Water in England and Wales (Oxford University
Press: 2004), documents the successes and failures
of the British water privatization model. For
