Stenhouse
In 1997, things were looking good for Staff
Sergeant Bob Stenhouse. He was climbing faster than
most through the ranks of the RCMP, and winning convictions
against members of biker gangs.
But
then he was promoted again, and watched with growing
frustration, as the focus on the force appeared to change
from real policing to what he felt were mere public
relations campaigns against biker gangs.
When
Stenhouse leaked documents that said as much, he triggered
the end of his career as an RCMP officer. His subsequent
appearance on the fifth estate further exacerbated relations
with his bosses. Last year, the Force ordered him to
resign…which opened a whole new chapter in his
life.
Where
he once devoted himself to catching people who fall
into a life of crime, he now focuses on reaching them
before that happens. He’s a counsellor to men,
youths and familes, in Edmonton, with a group called
A New Day begins.
“How does change come about? Change, no matter
what, in society, change comes about from people that
don’t give up and who pursue right, that have
a strong sense inside their heart about what is right”
