Lucy, an Asian elephant was captured as a baby in Sri Lanka in 1977, and brought straight to the Edmonton Valley zoo in Alberta.

Maggie was born in 1982 in Zimbabwe, Africa, but she was orphaned when her herd was culled. In 1983, she arrived at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage.

There have been 12 elephants at the Toronto Zoo since it opened in 1974. Seven have died, and two have been relocated, leaving just Toka, Thika and Iringa behind.
