August 15
Mark Twitchell's Facebook profile states, "Mark has way too much in common with Dexter Morgan."

August 27
A casting call goes out on the website www.mandy.com for actors to star in a movie called House of Cards.

August 29
Somebody living at 30 Dayton Crescent (Twitchell's home address) orders an 800,000 volt stun gun online.

August 31
Twitchell installs an IP blocker on his computer. An IP blocker is software designed to block anyone from tracing where an email was sent from.

September 3
Twitchell updates his Facebook profile to state, "Mark feeds on the souls of his defeated foes."

September 28
Filming is completed for Twitchell's psychological thriller, House of Cards, in the garage he is renting.

October 3
Gilles Tetreault gets attacked by Twitchell but escapes alive. He does not report the attack to the police.

October 10
John Altinger disappears after telling his friends he's on his way to meet a woman he met from the plentyoffish.com dating website.

October 12
• Twitchell uses Altinger's key to break into his apartment and changes his Facebook status from "Single" to "In A Relationship" and changes status to state, “John is taking off to the Caribbean for a few months. See you all when I get back. Wondering why anyone would leave sun and surf to come home to snow and stress."

• Altinger's friend and co-worker, Hans-Wilhelm Adam, emails Altinger to tell him that he's looking for condos in his area and that he hopes once he buys a condo in his neighbourhood that they can carpool to work together.

October 13
• Hans-Wilhelm Adam gets a reply from Altinger's account stating: "No car pool for me. I'm taking an extended vacation. Good luck."

• Altinger's friends receive a separate Facebook message that states: "Hey there, I've met an extraordinary woman named Jen who has offered to take me on a nice, long tropical vacation. We'll be staying in her winter home in Costa Rica, phone number to follow soon. I won't be back in town till December 10th but I will be checking my email periodically. See you around the holidays. Johnny."

• Altinger's employer at Argus Machine recieves an email from Altinger stating, 'I quit. I'm going on an extended leave'

October 14
• William Stanic (Altinger's friend and co-worker) tells Hans-Wilhelm Adam that 'something is not right' about Altinger's emails and him not showing up for work

October 17
• Twitchell saves SK Confessions on his computer at 5:17 p.m. In his letters later to the fifth estate Twitchell claims that SK Confessions was the manuscript for a novel. During his trial the prosecutors argued it was in fact his diary.

• Altinger's friends Dale Smith and Marcel and Carolyn Souza break into Altinger's apartment and find his suitcase, toothbrush and passport still there.

• The friends file a missing person report. They had contacted the police earlier in the week but the police didn't take them seriously.

October 19
• Det. Mike Tabler interviews Twitchell and tells him that Altinger had texted a friend and told him that he had met a man inside of the garage that Twitchell is renting. This is the first time Twitchell learns that Altinger had told someone else that he had met a man inside of Twitchell's garage.

• At some point after he leaves the interview, Twitchell emails Tabler and says that he had forgotten to say it earlier but in fact he had bought a red Mazda (same make as Altinger's car) off of a lady for $40.00. The EPS doesn't learn about this email because by then Tabler is on holiday.

• Twitchell meets with Det. Brian Murphy later that day and tells him about buying the red Mazda. Murphy phones Anstey and that's when they are convinced this is a murder and the case becomes a homicide investigation. They ask Twitchell to go to the EPS station for an interview.

• Twitchell goes to the EPS station and writes out an eight-page statement.

October 20
• Det. Bill Clark interviews Twitchell at 2:00 a.m. He releases Twitchell but confiscates his car.

• Twitchell is put on 24 hour surveillance as soon as he leaves the police station.

October 22
• Police obtain four search warrants: for Twitchell's car, Altinger's car, the garage, and Twitchell's home in St. Albert

• Constable Mike Roszko goes to Twitchell's home and confiscates his computer and finds part of SK Confessions (30 of the 42 pages) from it, hands the document over to lead detective Mark Anstey.

• This is the first time police learn that there was a second victim who escaped.

October 24
Police publicly confirm they suspect foul play in Altinger's disappearance.

October 27
Twitchell writes on his Facebook profile, 'Dexter feels the dark passenger getting restless again.'

October 31
Mark Twitchell is arrested in Altinger's murder in front of his parent's house by a team of police officers.

November 1
Police make a public appeal for the second victim to contact the police.

November 2
Gilles Tetreault contacts police and tells them he's the second victim.

November 3
Police interview Gilles Tetreault. His story lines up with what's written in SK Confessions.

November 5
Det. Dale Johnson, armed with SK Confessions, inspects manholes near Twitchell's parents home for Altinger's body.

November 21
Twitchell served with divorce papers while he is still in custody in the Edmonton Remand Centre.

December 3
Twitchell's lawyer enters a plea of not guilty on his behalf in an Edmonton courtroom..

August 20
• Crown prosecutor Lawrence Van Dyke files a rare application for a direct indictment against Mark Twitchell, skipping over the preliminary hearing.

• Crown's office won't comment on why they filed the application but during this period ABC 20/20 is in town gathering information and media speculation is that prosecutors fear trial information covered by the publication ban will be broadcast by U.S. networks seen locally.

September 4
• Crown prosecutors win their application for a direct indictment of Mark Twitchell and the move eliminates Twitchell's right to a preliminary hearing.

September 9
• Det. Bill Clark and Det. Brad Mandrusiak visit Twitchell in the remand centre. They try to persuade Twitchell to give up the location of Altinger’s body.

September 18
• A judge denies media access to a series of search warrants that homicide investigators used to collect evidence against Twitchell.

• Assistant Chief Judge James Wheatley also issues a blanket publication ban on the information.

June 3
• Twitchell requests a meeting with the police, specifies he doesn’t want Det. Bill Clark there. Det. Brad Mandrusiak goes with Det. Jeff Kerr and meets with Twitchell and his lawyer.

• Twitchell hands Mandrusiak a piece of paper, he opens it once he’s left the meeting and it states ‘Location of John Altinger’s remains’ and gives directions.

• Mandrusiak goes to location and sees what he thinks are human remains in the sewer. Doesn’t have equipment to remove body so returns next day.

June 4
Johnny Altinger’s body is recovered from sewer near Twitchell’s parents’ home.

March 16
Twitchell’s murder trial begins.

April 12
Twitchell convicted for first degree murder, sentenced to the mandatory 25 years in prison.

May 9
Twitchell files an appeal of his conviction.

June 17
Charges stayed in attempted murder charges against Twitchell in attack on Gilles Tetreault.
