What is "The Code"?
Who better to discuss The Code than Georges Laraque? He is considered by many to be the undisputed heavyweight-fighting champion of the NHL at 6’3”, 253 lbs. In the 1995 NHL entry Draft, right-winger Laraque was chosen 31st overall by the Edmonton Oilers. Laraque spent majority of his career in Edmonton before moving to the Phoenix Coyotes and then the Pittsburgh Penguins and currently plays for his hometown Montreal Canadiens. According to hockeyfights.com, Laraque has fought over 110 times during his NHL career, including 92 fights as an Edmonton Oilers’ player. He has accumulated more than 1000 minutes in penalties. He had his most productive season in 2000-2001 with Edmonton scoring 13 goals and 16 assists including 148 penalty minutes.
