In an Edmonton courtroom on January 19, 2009, Dennis Cheeseman and Shawn Hennessey both plead guilty to four counts of manslaughter in connection with the murders of four RCMP officers in Mayerthorpe, Alberta on March 3, 2005.
The
16-page Agreed Statement of Facts [PDF] was put to Justice Eric Macklin to help him with his sentencing decision. The statement is the result of a negotiation between the defense and the Crown. However, discrepancies between those facts and the mens’ story have already surfaced.
In an exclusive interview with the fifth estate, Shawn Hennessey contradicts key facts contained in the agreement.
Hennessey insists that Roszko demanded a gun and a ride at his doorstep while brandishing a 9 mm pistol in his hand. The Agreed Statement of facts say Roszko had the pistol in his waistband.
Hennessey maintains that he was unaware that there were RCMP officers on the farm when they dropped Roszko off nearby. The Agreed Statement of Facts says that Hennessey and Cheeseman saw police lights on Roszko’s property.
