A Producer's Inspiration
A Death in the Family is a co-production with CBC Radio One's The Current. It was The Current's John Chipman who made the first contact with Bill Mullins-Johnson and then brought the idea of a documentary co-production to the fifth estate. John worked with fifth estate producer Kit Melamed and associate producer Angela Gilbert to produce A Death in the Family as well as producing his own radio documentary for The Current. Here he talks to Angela Gilbert about his initial interest in the story, his relationship with the Mullins-Johnson family and the difference between producing a documentary for television and radio.
