Louis Vuitton - Spring/Summer 2007
For Spring/Summer 2007 Marc Jacobs led his faithful followers down the garden path with a parade of contradictions - traversing cultures, income brackets, even centuries. With its heady mix of puffed sleeves and tailored safari jackets, it was the Magic Flute meets Marie Antoinette with a bit of Oxford prep… and then some.

Marc Jacobs looked to the spirit of his late friend Steven Sprouse for inspiration this season - mixing Parisian pearls with an underground club vibe. There was also something distinctly familiar about the oversized hats worn by many of the models. Check it out!

Louis Vuitton - Spring/Summer 2006
After a couple of seasons of gloom and gothicism, both for his own label and for Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs has crossed over to the bright side with his latest Vuitton collection. Consider this the Disney version of Louis Vuitton...

Louis Vuitton - Fall/Winter 2005
There is a dark and decorative edge to fashion this season, with the mood at many collections drumming up the magic of a gothic fairytale. At Vuitton, Jacobs played with a dark palette and cartoonish proportions that hinted at both the quirky elegance of Tim Burton and the structured volume of Balenciaga. Check it out...

Louis Vuitton - Fall/Winter 2004
Think of pretty Scotch misses ice skating in winter and you’ve got a vague idea of what the latest Louis Vuitton collection is all about but this being the work of designer Marc Jacobs there is actually a whole lot more. As always, Marc worked with a melange of influences, which this season included a few references to the British designer Vivienne Westwood who, thanks to a recent retrospective at London's Victoria and Albert museum, is on the mind of many a fashionista these days.

Marc Jacobs always swears that his collections are only about producing beautiful clothes. This season, that may well be true, but he worked many of spring’s trends in his own way, incorporating the influence of the fifties, the metallic details, and extreme femininity in pieces that were very cool, yet more about glamour than anything girlish.

Marc Jacobs is enjoying a very fruitful relationship with Japan in his work for Louis Vuitton. This season, the Vuitton girl can expect to look a little bit like a Samurai warrior. As Marc Jacobs' sensibility adjusts to life in Europe, his shows for Louis Vuitton have become more innately European but this season Jacobs fascination with all things Japanese brought an interesting spin to the established Vuitton label.

Louis Vuitton - Spring/Summer 2003
Marc Jacobs understands the power of the purse for Louis Vuitton and each season he headlines his shows with the much anticipated unveiling of the Next Big Thing in bags. In an unconventional collaboration Jacobs hooked up with Japanese illustrator Takashi Murakami to reinvest the LV logo with a touch of whimsy. The collection itself had all the discrete charm of the French bourgeoisie - from mignon twin sets to coquettish dresses with erogenous zones cut out of their pastel primness. Jacobs understands the irresistible allure of subtle, hinted at, sexuality. His muse this season was a cross between Barbie and Bardot, drawing on the stylized glamour of the 50's and early 60's.

Louis Vuitton - Fall/Winter 2002
Marc Jacobs' latest collection for Louis Vuitton has a typically idiosyncratic mix of influences - from Hitchcock heroines to Inuit ingenues. Revolving around a tightly controlled colour palette of pale shades of cream, olive green and gray, Marc Jacobs explored the territory of "undressed glamour". In designing for Louis Vuitton, Jacobs has managed to master the laissez faire luxury that Europe does so well. This winter collection was much more streamlined than in seasons past, but close up the intricate workmanship spoke of the hidden luxury that whispers, rather than shouts, in Marc Jacobs designs for the label.

Louis Vuitton - Spring/Summer 2002
Spring 2002 got off to a shaky start at the house of Louis Vuitton, after Marc Jacobs was stranded in New York in the days following September 11. Forced to postpone, Vuitton settled for the final slot of the season, forcing many an editor to choose between an early flight home and Marc's second outing after a standout show in New York. By overwhelming acclaim, this collection was worth the wait. Continuing with the arts and crafts concept he began State-side, Marc Jacobs showed a romantic collection of earthy collages of colour, whimsical details, and a pretty, seventies-inspired silhouette.
