Cynthia Rowley - Spring/Summer 2005
For Cynthia Rowley, the nineteenth century Samuel Butler novel Erewhon was a major inspiration for her collection. In the designer’s words the story is that of a man who goes into the jungles and finds Utopia. Rowley translated this idea to the catwalk, creating her own utopia in New York with a runway covered in sand and set to the pulsing rhythm of drums.

Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what Cynthia Rowley’s collection is made of this season. Having carved a niche for herself in New York as the designer with the whimsical touch, Rowley was inspired by the drawings of artist William Cotton to create a collection of sugary sweet, candy-themed clothes.
