Sex and the City Premiere
I have to admit that I had some reservations about watching the new SATC film. As an avid and loyal viewer of the series I was afraid that Hollywood, as it most often does, was going to take something smart and stylish from the world of television and bastardize it for the sake of a quickie (multi-million dollar cash cow). As I sat down in the theatre with the rest of the press, I recalled all the great episodes (or is that outfits?) in my head. I -along with everyone else -always did love the fashion on Sex and the City and I was really there to see what uber-stylist Pat Fields had on offer for this mega film.
The film opens with full-on fashion porn -a montage of clothing meant to remind the viewer of what they've missed the last 4 years, and what they can expect from the next 2 hours. The city sidewalk becomes a catwalk for every top designer you can imagine, but pay attention to how often Vivienne Westwood makes the cut. Without giving too much away be prepared to see everything from swim wear to bridesmaid's gowns, from maternity wear to sultry evening numbers.
I won't give too much away but for brides-to-be you must watch this film if only to witness Ms. Bradshaw trying on the world's most beautiful couture wedding gowns (keep your eyes open for an Oscar de la Renta # that will set your heart aflutter).
The girls are a bit older and a bit wiser, but still absolutely fabulous. Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, looks remarkable for 50. The stealth fashionista of the film is none other than Miranda Hobbs. She raises the bar on high fashion dressing for the high-powered professional.
For me, the most fabulous fashion moment in the film involved a customized closet that demands a reaction of shock and awe. But, if you're going to have 81 costume changes in two hours (Carrie!) you need somewhere to put all those clothes!
The verdict? 4 out of 5 fashion stars.
Note to Fashion File viewers...I was so inspired by the closet scene in this film that I have begun the process of building a new wardrobe for myself, and I will showcase it here once it's complete to show all Fashion File viewers how to achieve the perfect wardrobe on a less than Mr Big budget. Till next time.
