May 2008 Archives

WWD has just featured a long article on the return of the supermodels, who are apparently poised to dominate the Fall 08 campaigns. There is lots of discussion about the longevity of the careers of Naomi, Linda, Amber, et al., and how time makes them "more interesting" and how they will always be "irreplaceable". But, somehow, they fail to give credit where credit is due - namely, to us, here at Fashion File!

I have to admit that I had some reservations about watching the new SATC film. As an avid and loyal viewer of the series I was afraid that Hollywood, as it most often does, was going to take something smart and stylish from the world of television and bastardize it for the sake of a quickie (multi-million dollar cash cow). As I sat down in the theatre with the rest of the press, I recalled all the great episodes (or is that outfits?) in my head. I -along with everyone else -always did love the fashion on Sex and the City and I was really there to see what uber-stylist Pat Fields had on offer for this mega film.

I feel that it is necessary to preface the following post by saying I do like Behati Prinsloo. But liking her has NOTHING to do with the wackness of reports (PAGE SIX) indicating that Victoria's Secret is positioning her to be the brand's next Gisele. The strength of Victoria's Secret's previous casting choices have been that they combined those great personalities with AMAZING bodies (read curves). Behati is a sweet girl but when I think Vic Secret, I think of BODIES like Gisele, Heidi and Tyra. For that reason I have selected alternative choices for the good people at Victoria's Secret to consider. Girls with personalities AND the bodies (again, sorry Behati).

Women Model Management's newest star is 17 year-old Jourdan Dunn. This Brit caught my eye at Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 show and she has been earning some serious ink since then. With a British Vogue mention AND editorial work with DAZED and i-D, Jourdan is clearly one-to-watch. Evidence of her pending fame may be seen in this edit from June i-D or from any of her MANY resort bookings.

Okay, so I CAN handle Marc Jacobs as Andy Warhol on the cover of Interview Magazine honouring Andy's 80th birthday.

Last night's Ugly Betty finale was AMAZING... Highlights for me included the Lindsay Lohan opening (very fetch), Judith Light wearing the most OTT white palazzo pants and the shortening of the word 'naturally' in Betty's article to 'natch'. Who has time to say complete words these days? Not me, obvi.

When you hear "Samsonite" you probably think luggage claim at the airport. Which is why I was feeling a little strange about my desire for this new ultra modern bag...

The FiFi Awards (the Oscars of the Fragrance World) were yesterday and I thought the new Chloe fragrance should have been recognized. Chloe is becoming cool again (even post Phoebe Philo) and this new fragrance perfectly captures the essence of the Chloe girl.

While most fashion fans will be going to see SJP in the upcoming Sex and the City Movie, I will be spending my $12 going to see Aussie model Gemma Ward in her Hollywood film debut. The movie is "The Strangers" and it comes out the same day as Sex and the City, May 30th.

As the self-proclaimed Model Rain Man of Fashion File, I was nearly stopped dead in my tracks when I first saw Abbey Lee.
