Current and former Cree leaders open Embassy
A new embassy for the Crees of Eeyou Istchee has opened in Quebec City. The official grand opening took place on December 3rd, along with celebrations of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Grand Council of the Crees. Quebec Premier Jean Charest, Parti Québecois leader Pauline Marois, past and present Cree leaders, Inuit and Innu leaders were also present at this event. Vincent Georgekish was there to cover the story and he spoke with three men who have contributed in different ways to the opening of the Embassy.
Robert Kanatewat is one of the original signatories of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement in 1975. He shared this comments on the opening of the Embassy, as well as his thoughts on the passing of fellow signatory Smally Petawabano on December 3rd.
Former Grand Chief Matthew Mukash also reflected on the opening of the Cree Embassy in Quebec City.
Cree Regional Authority/Grand Council Executive Director Bill Namagoose was also there, and shared his comments with Vincent Georgekish.
