Last night's storm

On today's program, we asked listeners for photos and stories from yesterday's hail storm... here's what you sent in!

More after the jump...

My husband & I were among those stuck in our plane on the tarmac at YYC for over 3 hours last night.  We were on the last flight that was allowed to land before the airport was closed, at about 10 pm.   Considering that it was a 5-hour flight, from Halifax, with everyone aboard on Atlantic Time, we were all fairly exhausted and dazed by the time we got off.  However the crew was very informative and everyone understood that there was no real choice; initially we had to stay aboard because it was too dangerous for the ground crew to work around the planes; next because they had to inspect the airplanes at the gates for hail damage before letting them depart and clear a gate for our plane.  Also, it was quite the lightening storm outside the airplane window!  We were relieved to not have been re-routed to another airport like all the planes behind us were.

thanks,
Hazel

We drove to Calgary from Didsbury last night. Best light show we've seen in years!
First encountered rain near Airdrie; it became very hard around Balzac, but no hail.
As we turned onto Memorial Drive, we first saw piles of hailstones, and the rain had largely stopped. Time was about 10:45.
Downtown and Beltline had lots of leaves and branches scattered around, and pools of water in the usual places. Didn't observe any property damage.
By the time we got home, in Rutland Park, near MRU, the roads were dry, with no evidence of any precipitation, and there was little sign of wind, either.

I'm watering the garden today, since Ma Nature didn't help last night!

We were lucky in Chestermere in having no damage to our property. I was going to bed when the storm began and it was lovely to snuggle under the covers with the sound of the thunder, and the rain and hail against the windows.  It reminded me of my childhood in the tropics living under a tin roof.
