Riding profile

This riding is in Quebec's Mauricie region and includes much of the city of Shawinigan, former prime minister Jean Chrétien's home turf. It's one of the least populous ridings in the province, but covers a vast area stretching up to the remote northern riding of Ungava and to the Abitibi region. The district gained some territory in the 2011 boundary realignment.

Political history

Liberal Julie Boulet snatched this seat from the PQ in a 2001 byelection and has held on ever since. Before that, it belonged to the PQ's Jean-Pierre Jolivet for 25 years. Her served in various cabinet posts, including forestry minister and minister for regions.
