Riding profile

riding map

Gouin encompasses much of the western part of the Montreal borough of Rosemont—La-Petite-Patrie. It sits just northwest of the city's Mile End neighbourhood, while the neighbourhood of Park Extension, one of Canada's most ethnically diverse, lies to its west.

The riding has been around since 1965 and was one of 39 that didn't change in the 2011 redistribution.

Political history

In 2012, Québec Solidaire co-spokesperson Françoise David wrestled the riding away from the Parti Québécois, which had held the seat since 1976. David became the party's second elected member. The riding was André Boisclair's seat before he ran for and won the PQ leadership in 2005.
