This riding stretches from Eglinton Avenue and the CN Rail line in the north to Lake Ontario in the south. Its western boundary is Victoria Park Avenue, and it extends to the intersection of Highway 2 and the CN Rail line in the east.
In the 1999 redistribution, the new Scarborough Southwest riding combined 57 per cent of Scarborough Centre with 57 per cent of Scarborough West and six per cent of Scarborough East.
Population: 108,693 (2011 census; an increase of 6.4% since 2011)
Liberal Lorenzo Berardinetti beat the NDP's Bruce Budd by more than 4,000 votes in 2011. In 2007, he bested Progressive Conservative Gary Crawford by 6,755 votes.
Berardinetti unseated Tory incumbent Dan Newman by 5,630 votes in 2003.
Newman was first elected to the legislature in 1995, when he captured the old Scarborough Centre riding. Newman won the new Scarborough Southwest riding in 1999, defeating Liberal Adrian Heaps.
The old Scarborough West riding was held by former NDP Leader Stephen Lewis from 1963 to 1979, and the New Democrats held on to the seat until 1995, when Tory James Brown won.
