Riding profile

This riding north of Toronto contains part of the town of Richmond Hill. It is bordered by Highway 7 in the south and Gamble Road, Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road East in the north. It lies between Highway 404 in the east and Bathurst Street in the west.

The 2007 redistribution created the Richmond Hill riding from parts of the Oak Ridges riding, which was created in the 1999 redistribution.

Population: 122,614 (2006 census; an increase of 12.1% since 2001)

Political history

Richmond Hill was created in 2003 from parts of Oak Ridges riding, and includes neighbourhoods like Elgin Mills, Bayview, Langstaff and Doncrest. 

From when it was first contested in 2007 till today, it has been held by the Liberals. Reza Moridi carried the riding by more than 12 percentage points over Vic Gupta, his PC rival. Moridi is the first Iranian-Canadian elected to a provincial legislature in Canada.
