This Greater Toronto Area riding contains an ethnically diverse part of the city of Mississauga. The riding boundaries are Queensway East and Queensway West to the south, Highway 403, Central Parkway and Burnhamthorpe Road East to the north, Etobicoke Creek to the east and Mavis Road to the west.
The riding of Mississauga East-Cooksville was created in 2007 using 64 per cent of Mississauga East and 35 per cent of Mississauga Centre.
Population: 139,039 (an increase from 126,642 in 2006 census)
Liberal incumbent Peter Fonseca quit the legislature last December in order to run federally in the riding, but lost to Conservative Wladyslaw Lizon in the federal race. Liberal and former journalist Dipika Damerla won the seat in 2011.
Provincially in 2007, Fonseca trounced PC candidate Zoran Churchin by 13,534 votes. Fonseca unseated Tory Carl DeFaria by 2,860 votes in 2003. DeFaria held the seat for the Progressive Conservatives from 1995 to 1999.
The riding was in Liberal hands from 1987 - 1995, and for the preceding 22 years was represented by Tory Bud Gregory.
