Weekend Wrap:

Weekend Wrap: Events made to impress even the best

Posted by Lien Yeung

Here are some pre-Valentine's Day ideas to impress those you love the most!

It's the original Slavic fairy tale that inspired The Little Mermaid. Rusalka tells the tragic story of a water nymph who falls in love with a human prince and their journey to be together. The music in this opera by composer Antonin Dvorak is simple and elegant but when paired with a full orchestra is expressive and romantic.

This is no "So You Think You Can Dance"...Wayne Mcgregor is one of the world's hottest contemporary choreographers right now and he's bringing one his show Entity to Vancouver for two nights. Be prepared to experience raw, sensual movements paired with razor sharp technical precision and a light show like no other.

Back for a second year of cocktail goodness, some of North America's finest bartenders will be descending upon Vancouver to serve up their best. A festival pass gets you into all five tasting rooms at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, seminars, and evening parties. Although geared towards the spirits industry, budding cocktail aficionados are more than welcome.

As the sun sets, check out Illuminate Yaletown in the city. Then release your inner ski bum and head for the slopes. Cypress, Seymour, and Grouse Mountain are doing special themes for the festival City and Slope. Cypress will be reliving the glory days of the 2010 Winter Olympics and honouring all things Candiana. Those of us with neon, spandex, and wooly headbands still sitting in our closets should be quick to whip it out because Seymour Mountain is handing out prizes for the best 80s costumes. Grouse Moutain is offering a unique opportunity with "24 Hours of Winter" - runs will be open all day and night! DJs and a tented deck will let you party all night long.
