Saturday August 4 is Food Day Canada, a tribute to the folks who grow, catch and cook our food. People across the country are invited to celebrate by cooking and eating meals made from local ingredients. Many BC chefs and restaurants are participating, including Allison Spurrell of Les Amis Du Fromage/Au Petit Chavignol, Andrew Wong of Wild Rice and Chef Quang Dang of West.

Allison shared two favourite cheeses (Baluchon from Quebec and Alpindon from the Kootenay Alpine Cheese Company. They also put together a menu featuring ingredients from Sole Food urban farm. Wild Rice is cooking up and Asian-influenced burger, and Chef Quang Dang's offerings include land and sea tasting menus that include Vancouver Island Octopus, roasted Okanagan cherries and Peace Country Elk.
