The Beach Boys album Surf's Up turns 40 today... it's an interesting album because it tries even harder to get away from the 'surfin' image the band were known for, and largely without contributions of Brian Wilson.

And John on Saturna Island has a birthday today, and as one of his presents he wants to hear Dave Van Ronk.
