Modrobes a hit on Queen Street

Season Four pitcher, Modrobes has reestablished themselves on Toronto’s trendy Queen West strip. Entrepreneur Steven Sal Debus was able to strike a deal in The Den with Brett Wilson, for $200k for a 35% piece of his company.

Modrobes, was a wildly popular clothing line in the late 90’s but over expansion caused the company to fold in 2005.

“Basically the investment got me started again,” Sal Debus explains in this postcity.com article. “At the time I didn't have a company – it was shelved. I went on [Dragons' Den] to get the capital to start – to buy fabrics, to book the manufacturing, to set up the space.”

In the article Sal Debus explains their biggest mistake was growing too fast, and striking deals with large multinational companies, which didn’t pay them for their services. The company is now focused on staying small and making environmentally sustainable clothing.

Despite their past struggles, Sal Debus is excited about their prospects and he explained to postcity.com why he is proud to be back in the Canadian market again, “Canadians are humble in terms of what we do well, I'm not that way, what we're doing here is leading the world in environmentally sound fashion and sportswear, people should feel proud of that – that someone close to home is pushing the parameters.”
