Robert's Trip Home : The Road to Zbjeg

They're all rich, they're all powerful, but most importantly, they're all self-made success stories. Over the past few months, we've been taking the Dragons back-----back to where it all began for each of them. And for Robert Herjavec, his roots couldn't stretch farther from his Bridle Path mansion. Think tiny farm, muddy ducks, rusted tractor, and hot soup in a warm kitchen.

Our Senior Producer, Lisa Gabriele is with him now, and over the next week will be posting on our blog about their trip to Zbjeg, a small hamlet on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia.

Zbjeg is a two and a half hour drive from Zagreb, along a stretch of road that has about as much charm and excitement as the 401 between London and Windsor, Ontario. Add fog, trucks, and weak rain and the drive will make you'll feel right at home, if you're from Southwestern Ontario.

blog_croatia5.jpg Robert wasted no time climbing aboard what was his first Lamborghini (seriously, the same Italian manufacturer made this tractor). And then he showed Caprice the hayloft, his first playroom, and the piglets: presumably his first playmates. It was a day of firsts; his aunt and uncle saw Dragons' Den for the first time. They're watching the episode featuring the Creative Hair pitch--not sure what they made of the Herjavec Mullet--but if laughter is the universal language, then it's fair to say they thought it was hilariously bad looking too.

All and all, a poignant, lovely, moving day in the life of Croatia's prodigal Dragon. Best potatoes I've ever eaten, too!

Coming soon we will meet  the sweetest, yet THE ugliest dog, in the WORLD! It's a Croatian Shepard and though I was totally taken with the breed, I was with a carload of locals who all crinkled their noses. Google it. Tell us if the Croatian Shepard has a future in Canada, next to our most popular breeds. I'm trying to convince our camera guy to pitch Dragons' Den on a company that imports them.
